Shikhar dhawan on rohit sharma capticy: Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan praised his former opener and dear friend Rohit Sharma as captain and said that the Indian captain has matured as a leader. Sharing his views about Rohit as captain in a special series, ‘Shikhar Dhawan Anubhav’, the former cricketer also highlighted Rohit’s bond with teammates. Dhawan said on Star Sports, “From 2013 to 2025, there is a lot of experience of 12 years. Rohit has seen a lot. He knows how to work in a state of pressure and how to collect boys. As a leader, he has matured; he knows when he is soft and when to retreat. It is a great balance and the binding of Rohit with boys is amazing.”

Dhawan, who was Rohit’s opening partner for nine years, recalled the time when he first started the innings with Rohit in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and revealed that the then captain MS Dhoni had the idea of promoting Rohit as an opener.

Dhawan said, “The decision of this opening pair was taken half a day before that match. At that time I was also new and I was in my own world. I had made a comeback and I needed to perform well. But MS Dhoni took this decision and instructed Rohit to open. So I didn’t think much about it.

Dhawan revealed, “We got a very good start in the first match. We were on 100 runs without losing any wickets. We did not score 30-35 runs till the 10th over because the wicket was seaming. But I never thought that our pair would be so big and we will play together for 10 years.”
