How does Mahakumbh look from space? NASA astronaut shared a wonderful picture

The world’s largest religious and humanitarian event Maha Kumbh Mela is being captured not only from the ground but also from space. The International Space Center (ISS) has captured surprising pictures of Maha Kumbh from space on Sunday night. In these pictures, a wonderful view of the Maha Kumbh Mela and the tent city was seen.

In the pictures from the International Space Centre, the world’s largest human gathering on the banks of river Ganga is shining with lights. Astronaut Don Petit from ISS has shared these pictures on social media platform X. In the pictures, the grand lights of the Maha Kumbh Mela and the huge crowd of devotees turned the banks of river Ganga into a unique scene. These pictures taken from space are showing the vastness of this religious event on Earth.

While sharing the pictures, Don Petit has written that an amazing view of the Maha Kumbh Mela of 2025 was seen in the pictures taken from the International Space Station. The world’s largest human gathering was glittering with lights on the banks of river Ganga.

American astronaut and chemical engineer Donald Roy Pettit is famous for astrophotography and innovation in his class. Petit is also the inventor of the “Zero G Cup”, the first patented object made in space. At the age of 69, Petit is NASA’s most senior active astronaut. He has been in ISS for the last 555 days.

ISRO also shared pictures
Earlier, India’s space agency ISRO had also shared some satellite images of Sangam city and Mahakumbh. ISRO had shown the Maha Kumbh Mela and Shivalaya Park in its photographs. ISRO had taken time series photographs of Prayagraj Parade Ground on 6 April 2024. Then photographs were taken on 22 December 2024, in which preparations for Maha Kumbh and development of Shivalaya Park are visible.

Mahakumbh will continue till 26th February
Mahakumbh is the world’s largest religious event, in which lakhs of devotees attain spiritual peace by taking a dip in the river Ganga. Till now, more than 13 crore devotees have experienced this pleasant and religious feeling by taking bath in Sangam. The first Amrit Snan of Mahakumbh took place on 13 January. The second Amrit Snan is to be held on Mauni Amavasya on 29th January. Mahakumbh Mela will end on 26th February.
