New Delhi:
There has been a war between Russia and Ukraine for almost three years. The situation between these two countries has become so bad that now the danger of use of nuclear weapons is also looming. Amidst all this, news came that US President Joe Biden has given Ukraine permission to attack inside Russia with American weapons. In response to this, Russian President Vladimir Putin has also changed his nuclear policy.
President Putin changed the policy of use of nuclear weapons
President Putin on Tuesday issued an open challenge to Ukraine and Western countries. During this period, the Russian President has also signed a decree. In which it has been told under what circumstances Russia can use nuclear weapons. He said that if a country which does not have nuclear power, attacks Russia with the help of a country with nuclear power, then it will be seen as a war against Russia. Puti further said that if ballistic missiles are used against Russia, a nuclear attack can also be carried out in response. Putin has made this change in his country’s nuclear doctrine. Let us tell you that the only purpose of doing this is that the countries supporting Ukraine do not attack it.
Because of Ukraine, it seems that once again America and Russia are standing face to face. This is the second time in history when this has happened. Earlier in 1962, a similar incident had come to light in Cuba, when the world felt that both the countries had come face to face. Let us tell you that story in detail…
What happened in 1962 after all
The matter is of October 1962. In those days the world was standing on the brink of nuclear war. On October 14, an American spy plane detected that the Soviet Union (now Russia) had deployed nuclear missiles. Let us tell you that the place where these nuclear missiles were deployed was just a few hundred kilometers away from the Florida coast.
The Soviet Union had accumulated a stock of nuclear missiles right under America’s nose and from here a large part of America could be attacked. This incident is remembered in history as the ‘Cuban Missile Crisis’, one of the most critical moments of the Cold War. The US Intelligence Agency had informed President John F Kennedy about the deployment of missiles in Cuba along with some photographs. Kennedy is told that nuclear missiles have been deployed in our neighborhood. At any time, Cuba, along with Russia, can launch a nuclear attack on America. The situation had become such that America and Cuba had come face to face.
On October 14, American spy planes flew over the area bordering Cuba and then collected many photographs from there to find out how accurate the information found was. During this period, more than 900 photographs were taken by the plane, which made it clear that there is not just one or two but a stockpile of nuclear missiles in Cuba. This input received by the spy agency gave sleepless nights to the American government. This was the period of the Cold War when the situation had become very critical.
Kennedy was informed about this on the morning of October 16, 1962. Many photographs were also presented to President Kennedy as evidence. After this, there was mutual tension between America and Cuba for a few days. After this, on October 26, President Kennedy addressed the countrymen. During that time he had said that it seems that war may start in the next few days. After the Second World War, not only America but the whole world was shocked to hear about a situation like nuclear war once again.
Cuba was surrounded
John F. Kennedy was particularly troubled by the fact that Russia had deployed so many nuclear weapons in Cuba right under his nose. Kennedy’s anger towards Russia was clearly visible in his speech recently. He had said during that time that America would never tolerate that Russia plants so many nuclear weapons next to it. He had talked about taking this fight to the end. Only after this, preparations for the attack on Cuba were intensified. The American President had given orders to surround Cuba from all sides.
Cuba had also prepared for counterattack
After the US President’s announcement, Cuba also started preparations to retaliate against America. It is said that during that time Cuba had a stockpile of all types of sophisticated weapons. Russia was with him and he was aware of it. Russian radar and missiles were deployed to respond to air attacks on Cuba. Russian soldiers had also reached Cuba, but the Cuban Navy had not made much preparation. Russia had also deployed 4 nuclear submarines during that period.
A woman had avoided war
Today, sitting in the 21st century, this may seem like a common thing, but in the 1960s, no one was even aware of the reality of a nuclear attack. Till that time the world had seen only one nuclear attack. People thought that if there was a nuclear attack, at most one city would be destroyed due to its impact. But by that time, America had made so many nuclear bombs or rather such weapons that could destroy life in the world. Now, in such a situation, if the nuclear weapons of China and Russia are combined, then you and we can now imagine how the situation would be. During that time, information related to nuclear weapons was a top secret. This was the reason why this matter was kept hidden from the general public at that time.
However, even at that time there was a person who wanted the truth to come out. He wanted the public to know everything. And this person’s name was Daniel Ellsberg. Daniel held a very high post in the Pentagon. He had access to high profile top secret documents. It is said that Daniel Ellsberg was the one who leaked the Pentagon Papers. If you do not know, then let us tell you that the Pentagon Papers contained a detailed account of America’s crimes committed in Vietnam. Daniels was against the Vietnam War. The name of this woman was Juanita Moody.
This woman worked as a cryptographer in the American intelligence agency. This meant reading encrypted codes or messages. During this time, American Intelligence had received input that Cuba could fire nuclear missiles at America any time soon. In response, America had also started preparations to fire missiles. But before America started firing missiles, Juanita Moody noticed the movement of Russian ships in the Caribbean Sea. He saw on his screen that the Russian ships had changed their course. He saw that those ships were now heading towards Russia. Juanita thought this was a sign from the Soviet Army that Russia did not want to clash with America. After this, Juanita first informed the US Ambassador to the United Nations, Adlai Stevenson, about the departure of the Russian ships. Because he was going to make a big announcement regarding war in the United Nations at any time. And in this way a major war between America and Russia was averted.
