IIT Indore student Rohit Singh Kaithawath committed suicide due to online betting game. In the WhatsApp status it was described as intoxication. Friends found him hanging. Police have started mobile investigation and investigation into the possibility of transaction. He was good in studies but was busy in games.

Naidunia Representative, Mhow (Indore). Rohit Singh Kaithawath, a student of IIT Indore in Madhya Pradesh, hanged himself in his hostel room. When friends returned after having food, they informed everyone. The student made a status on WhatsApp that online betting apps are like an addiction, he is trapped in it hence he is committing suicide. Simrol police station conducted the post-mortem of the body on Saturday. Also informed the family.
Didn’t go out to eat with friends
According to the police, 17-year-old Rohit was originally a resident of Nalgonda district of Telangana. He was in first year B.Tech at IIT and lived in the Vikram Sarabhai hostel on the campus. Rohit was in his room on Friday night. At around 8.30 his friends came and asked him to go to the dining hall to eat, but Rohit refused.
When friends returned after having dinner, they saw that Rohit was hanging. The students informed this to the hostel warden. Police also arrived and removed the body and took it to the district hospital for post-mortem. Post mortem was conducted on Saturday.
I will do this again in the future
Police searched for suicide note in Rohit’s room, but did not find it. After this, when I checked the phone, I found the status on WhatsApp. In this he had written in English that the reason for my suicide was online betting game. I am dedicated to this. Even if my parents forgive me, I will do the same thing again in the future because it is like an addiction. So we will see in the next life. Goodbye to all my loved ones.
Was good at studies, but kept playing games on phone
Friends told that he was good at studies. Most of the time he remained alone in the room and remained busy on his mobile. He was seen playing a game. Friends have also talked about being engaged in online betting app. He also talked about losing lakhs of rupees.
Additional SP Rupesh Dwivedi said that a status had been entered in Rohit’s mobile that he was engaged in online betting game. Now we are checking his phone. If someone is repeatedly troubling you regarding the matter of transaction or for money, we will also investigate this.
