Prior to the Prime Minister’s visit, India said on Saturday that it supports Mauritius’ efforts to reach a mutually beneficial agreement with Britain over the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean. It is expected that this issue will arise in Modi’s conversation with Mauritius Prime Minister Ramgulam.
In October last year, Britain announced its decision to hand over the sovereignty of Chagos Islands to Mauritius after more than half a century under a historic agreement.
