Sunil Gavaskar Reaction on Virat Kohli vs Sam Konstas: There was a clash on the field between Virat Kohli and Test cricket debutant Sam Constas on the first day of the fourth Test on Thursday, for which the Indian cricketer was fined 20 percent of his match fee and one demerit point was added to his account. After the tenth over of the Australian innings, when the players were passing each other, the shoulders of Kohli and Constas collided. Both the players turned and stared at each other and also said something. Meanwhile, Australian opener Usman Khawaja came and separated the two. The on-field umpires also talked to both of them.
Fine imposed on Virat Kohli
On-field umpires Joel Wilson and Michael Gough, third umpire Sharafuddaula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Shaun Craig accused Kohli of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Kohli accepted the punishment given by match referee Andy Pycroft.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement, “Virat Kohli has been fined 20 percent of his match fee for breaching Level One of the ICC Code of Conduct and one demerit point has been added to his account.” According to the statement, “There was no need for a formal hearing in this matter as Kohli accepted the punishment given by match referee Andy Pycroft.”
Constas said this about Kohli
After the end of the first day’s play, Constas said that Kohli had not collided with him intentionally. He said, “Virat Kohli accidentally collided with me. This is cricket and this happens under stress.” Constas told Channel 7 during the second session, “I think we were both overcome with emotion. I didn’t even understand. I was putting on my gloves when suddenly his shoulder hit me. All this happens in cricket. Remains.”
Kohli’s match fee would be Rs 15 lakh but due to the fine imposed, now he will get only Rs 12 lakh. This is the first time since 2019 when demerit points have been added to Kohli’s account. If four demerit points are accumulated in a player’s account within two years, he is suspended for one Test match.
Sunil Gavaskar also reacted
Whereas former Indian player Sunil Gavaskar said on this matter that there was no need for it. From India Today talk Gavaskar said, “I don’t know what the reason was, but there was really no need for it. We don’t need that in any grade of cricket, certainly not at the highest level. You got physical. “Can play very competitive cricket even without it.”
Sunil Gavaskar further added, “At the same time I think we all want to remember Kohli as one of the greatest cricketers ever to play the game, not as someone who got fined Or someone who has been censored by the ICC. So maybe he will learn from this and not want to repeat it again.”
Gavaskar further said, “I think the competitiveness is in him. We have always seen how he celebrates every wicket, every catch and good fielding done by his teammates, we understand that and it is great.” “There’s nothing wrong with that, but I think they should be physically active.”
Gavaskar said, “When you are playing for India, if that is not a big enough encouragement, then I don’t know what encouragement you need. Playing for India is such a big privilege in itself that you know that. We can play the 69th ranked team in the world or the world number one team, which should be enough motivation.”
