Shami said at an event organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal, “The hunger to play for the country should never end. Whenever we get injured, only one thought comes to our mind, when can we make a comeback? ” Shami said.
Shami, who missed several important tournaments including the T20 World Cup and the five-match Test series of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, stressed that overcoming injuries is part of an athlete’s journey. “If you are hard-working and committed, no injury can keep you away for long. You will always find a way back.” Wearing the blue jersey is the biggest honor and he believes that if a player plays with dedication and commitment, he should get a chance to represent the country.
Talking about his deep association with Eden Gardens, he said, “Home ground is always special. I started my career here. I have said it before. Even though I was born and brought up in Uttar Pradesh But I am from Bengal, this is my home, this is my life.” Sharing the stage with cricket legend Sourav Ganguly, former India women’s captain Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, she expressed gratitude for the opportunities she got because of her dedication.
“I have only done one thing, fulfilled my responsibilities with dedication. And I hope that all of you will also play with the same dedication and play for India one day. Because once you get that opportunity, There’s no better feeling than representing your country.” CAB also honored the senior women’s Bengal team, which finished runner-up in the T20 and One-Day Trophy, and the Vinoo Mankad under-19 Bengal men’s team, which reached the finals.
