New Delhi: India-Indonesia have decided to take defense and trade relations to new heights. Along with this, many such decisions have been taken which may cause concern to China. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held extensive talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday. Both the countries agreed to work jointly to accelerate overall bilateral relations in the areas of defense manufacturing and supply chain.
Let us tell you that Subianto is on a three-day visit to India. He will be the chief guest at the Republic Day function to be held on the duty path on Sunday. In his statement to the media after the talks, Modi described Indonesia as an “important partner” of India within the 10-nation ASEAN grouping as well as the Indo-Pacific region and said both countries were committed to a rules-based order in the region.

India-Indonesia friendship has also created tension for China. “We agree that freedom of navigation must be ensured in line with international law,” PM Modi said amid growing global concerns over China’s growing military power in the Indo-Pacific region. “We had wide-ranging discussions on various aspects of our bilateral relations,” the Prime Minister said, adding that India and Indonesia have agreed to jointly work on defense manufacturing and supply chain. Modi said that the agreement signed between India and Indonesia in the maritime security sector will further strengthen cooperation in crime prevention, search and rescue and capacity building. He said both sides discussed the need to diversify trade sectors and market access to boost overall economic ties.
Strong alliance in AI and digital infrastructure
“We have decided to strengthen cooperation in areas such as fintech, artificial intelligence, ‘Internet of Things’ and digital public infrastructure,” the Prime Minister said. He also said both sides emphasized cooperation in the areas of maritime security, cyber security, counter-terrorism and de-radicalisation. In the talks, the Indian side also welcomed Indonesia’s BRICS membership. Describing the talks as fruitful, the Indonesian President said that both sides have agreed to enhance cooperation in many key areas of common interests. Subianto said, “I have instructed my officials that we need to increase economic partnership with India.”
