New Delhi:
What is US President Donald Trump trying to do? This question is because he claimed India has agreed to the tariff cut. At the same time, India says that no such agreement has been made so far. In fact, Trump had recently claimed that India has agreed to the tariff cut. While India says that no agreement has been reached with America so far on this issue, talks are going on between the two countries. Two days after Trump’s claim, the Government of India told this to the parliamentary panel on Monday. The government said that no agreement has been reached on trade fee. Time has been sought till September to resolve this issue. Please tell that recently, Trump had threatened to implement the tariff from April 2.

“No compromise on tariff cuts so far”
Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal told the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs that there has been no compromise so far to reduce the tariff between Indo-US. Both are working towards bilateral trade agreement. Not only the issue of immediate tariffs, not only on long -term trade cooperation is being focused on.
At the same time, many members of the committee expressed concern over Trump’s claim, in which he said that India has agreed to reduce the tariff. Some opposition MPs like Asaduddin Owaisi, Deepender Hooda of Congress and Sagarika Ghosh of TMC asked questions about this. On which Sunil Barthwal said that no one should rely on Trump’s claims and media reports, because the talks on the agreement between the two countries are still going on. He told the Parliamentary Committee that India has not expressed any commitment on the trade fee front with the US.
“Tariff war can cause recession”
According to sources, many members of the committee asked Barthwal many questions on the US-India trade talks. On which he said that India’s interests will be taken care of during the business talks. He told the committee that India is in favor of free trade and wants liberalization of trade, which will help in increasing trade between the two countries. He said that no one including America will benefit from the tariff war, it can create recession conditions.
“Why are we not raising voice like Canada?”
During this time, some members of Parliament asked the Commerce Secretary why India is not raising its voice like Mexico and Canada with US steps at customs. On this, Barthwal said that both matters cannot be compared, because America’s security concerns and border immigration issues with them.
What did the Commerce Secretary say to the committee?
He said that India will protect such industries which are important for its domestic economy. India bilaterally can reduce customs duty but cannot do so multilately. For this reason, work is being done on bilateral trade agreement.
