IPL 2025: Big change in Gujarat Titans just before the start of IPL, now the command of franchise came to them

Torrent Group 67 Percent Stake in Gujarat Titans: Ahmedabad -based Torrent Group said on Monday that it has completed 67 percent stake in IPL franchise Gujarat Titans before the start of IPL 2025 season. Torrent has bought 67 percent stake in Gujarat from Irelia Sports India Private Limited. Currently private equity funds manage CVC-Irelia Sports India Private Limited. This deal has received all the necessary approval including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In a statement about this deal, Torrent said that along with fulfilling these conditions, the acquisition is now successfully completed.

According to the report, the group said in its statement, “As part of the transaction, Irelia, which CVC manages, will maintain its association with a 33 percent stake with the franchise.” However, the financial statements of this deal have not been revealed. On February 12, Torrent announced signing fixed agreements for the deal.

Know who is the owner of which franchise

This acquisition shows how fast the sports is growing in India. Torrent is the latest corporate to enter IPL. Let me tell you, there are currently 10 teams in the IPL, each of which is named after a separate city or region of the country. They are owned by large Indian groups (Reliance Industries, JSW Group, GMR Group, RP Sanjeev Goenka Group), multinational companies (Diazio PLC), major Altra-HNI family offices and even private equity investors (CVC Capital).

Reliance of the richest Indian Mukesh Ambani is the owner of Mumbai Indians, while the family of N Srinivasan and India Cements own Chennai Super Kings. Sanjeev Goenka’s RPSG Group is the owner of Lucknow Super Giants, while the GRM Group Entities and JSW Group (50 percent each) owned by Delhi Capitals.

Sunrisers Hyderabad is owned by Sun Group, Royal Challengers Bangalore owned United Spirits Limited and Punjab Kings owned Mohit Burman (Dabur) (Dabur) (48 percent), Nes Wadia (Wadia Group) 23 percent, Preeti Jinta (23 percent) and Karan Paul (6 percent) (APJ Surendra Group) (6 percent).

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gaur Khan’s Gauri Khan Family Trust (55 per cent) and Juhi Chawla and Jai Mehta’s Mehta Group (45 per cent) are the owners of Kolkata Knight Riders. CVC Capital Partners acquired the Gujarat Titans franchise in 2021 for Rs 5,600 crore. It was the second team to win the IPL in its first season.

Regarding the deal, Torrent said, “One of the youngest and most successful franchises in IPL history, Gujarat Titans will now benefit from the comprehensive expertise of Torrent in the construction and management of large -scale businesses. With focus on strengthening the team operations, fan engagement and commercial development, the acquisition prepares for an thrilling future for the franchise.”

The foundation of the Torrent Group was laid by UN Mehta as Torrent Pharma. Since then, Sudhir and Sameer Mehta increased the pharma business and brought diversity in power and gas distribution sectors. In recent years, the group has announced its intentions to expand in electrical and diagnostic areas besides the acquisition of Gujarat Titans. In the last five years, the group market cap has increased by 33 percent per year and has increased to about 2 lakh crore rupees.

Let me tell you, Dwarjar Titans played the first season of the league in 2022 and that season team was the winner. The team also reached the final of the league in 2023. But in 2024, the team’s performance was very poor. In IPL 2025, Gujarat will try to win the title under the leadership of Shubman Gill.
