Lucknow was looking for such an Indian player in the auction and the franchise bid for Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer were at the top of his list. In the auction, they initially won a tough bidding war with Hyderabad and bought Pant for Rs 20.75 crore. But then Delhi Capitals chose to use the right-to-match. Lucknow then increased the bid to Rs 27 crore, after which Delhi was out.
Rishabh Pant has been a part of Delhi Capitals since 2016 and the franchise gave him the captaincy in 2021. Pant remained the captain of Delhi Capitals for the rest of the seasons except the 2023 season. Rishabh Pant will now work closely with head coach Justin Langer, with whom he had interacted during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, and will also work with new team mentor Zaheer Khan.
