Digi Yatra is based on facial recognition technology

According to the news, Digi Yatra is an advanced platform for easy entry into the airport. Based on facial recognition technology, Digi Yatra provides contactless, seamless movement of passengers across different check points at the airport. The data shared by the passenger for Digi Yatra is stored in encrypted format. To avail this service, the passenger has to enter his/her details on the Digi Yatra app using Aadhaar based verification and self-captured photo. In the next phase, the boarding pass will have to be scanned and the credentials will be shared with the airport.

Data is deleted within 24 hours of flight departure

The ministry said in a post on social media platform X that Digi Yatra passenger data is not shared with Indian tax authorities. In the post, the ministry wrote that -Digi Yatra app follows the Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) model, where personally identifiable information (PII) and travel credentials are not stored on any central repository, but on the users’ device itself. Is. Also, if a user uninstalls the Digi Yatra app, the data is completely removed.

The ministry also said that the airport system automatically deletes passenger data within 24 hours of flight departure. The Income Tax Department, in a post on X, refuted reports that Digi Yatra data would be used to crack down on tax evaders. In this regard, it is clarified that till date no such action has been taken by @IncomeTaxIndia Department.

Digi Yatra is managed by Digi Yatra Foundation. The shareholders of Digi Yatra are Airports Authority of India (AAI), Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Hyderabad International Airport Limited (HIAL) and Mumbai International Airport.
