Israel-Hamas war: Where is the hurdle for peace in Gaza?

New Delhi:

Israel Hamas War: Israel continues to attack Hamas. This attack is continuing on the Gaza area and Israel has turned the entire area into debris in the last one year. So far, more than 50 thousand people have died in Israel’s attack in Gaza. This figure could also be much higher. Despite the deaths of so many civilians, mostly women and children, and so much destruction, Hamas has not surrendered its arms to Israel. At the same time, Israel is also not slowing down its attacks and IDF soldiers are continuously taking action on Hamas areas.

It is noteworthy that on October 7 last year, Hamas had attacked Israel with 5000 rockets. At the same time, Hamas fighters simultaneously entered through different means and fired indiscriminately on people in the border areas of Israel, killing many people. 1200 people were killed in this attack by Hamas. Also, Hamas fighters had taken 295 Israeli people with them as hostages.

When will the hostages be released?

After the attacks by Hamas, Israel’s retaliatory action is continuing and everything depends on the release of the hostages. Israel is maintaining pressure on Hamas for the release of the hostages, but there is no visible impact on Hamas. Millions of people have been displaced and even after the death of thousands, Hamas is not ready to bow down. In such a situation, it is important to see where the problem lies between the two.

Why did Hamas attack?

First of all, let us understand what were the important reasons behind the attack last year. What was Hamas’s rationale for the attack? First, a Hamas spokesperson had said that its demand was to put pressure on Israel to lift the siege of the areas it claims. This includes the West Bank and Jerusalem areas.

Second, normalization of Arab-Israeli relations was happening rapidly. One reason for this was the improvement in relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Due to this the Hamas leadership was forced to take action. In recent years, this process has further reduced the importance of the Palestinian issue to Arab leaders, who became less eager to pressure Israel on the matter. Israel has made agreements with some countries in the last few years. Now, amid continuous attacks on Hamas, many Arab countries have started talking about reducing attacks on Israel and reducing the deaths of civilians.

Here, the third reason which became most important included full support to Hamas from Iran. It is said that after succeeding in improving its relations with Iran, the morale of Hamas had increased significantly.

Israeli bet and reward announcement

Now that Israel has caused so much destruction and now the Hamas fighters have been completely defeated, in such a situation, Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing political and military opposition in his country, has also put a condition before Hamas. And has also given an offer. Netanyahu has said that Hamas fighters can safely go out with their families. For this they will have to lay down their arms. Also, if they have Israeli hostages then Israel is ready to pay a heavy price for their release. Israel said that it is ready to give 5 million dollars to Hamas fighters in exchange for a hostage.

Hamas is not ready to accept defeat and bow down

The message that has come from Hamas after this Israeli offer makes it clear that it is still not ready to bow down. Hamas’ acting Gaza chief Khalil al-Haya has said that there will be no deal with Israel on the exchange of prisoners for hostages until the war in the Palestinian territories ends. Haya told the group’s Al-Aqsa television channel that without ending the war, the prisoner exchange could not take place. He reiterated the group’s position on how to end the war. If the aggression has not ended, why would the resistance, and especially Hamas, return the prisoners (hostages)? Hamas says that how can a sane or mad person lose his strong card while the war continues?

Why did the conversation stop?

It is noteworthy that efforts to negotiate a ceasefire for Gaza have stalled, and the US on Wednesday vetoed the UN Security Council’s proposal for an unconditional permanent ceasefire. The US said we would only support a resolution that clearly calls for the immediate release of Israeli hostages as part of a ceasefire.

Now Hamas has blamed Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu for the talks not happening, while Netanyahu has been blaming the Islamic group Hamas for the stalled talks. Meanwhile, Israel and Hamas are engaged in talks with representatives of some countries so that a solution can be found.

israel’s will

It is noteworthy that on Tuesday, Netanyahu visited Gaza and clearly said that after the end of the war, Hamas will not rule the Palestinian territory and Israel has destroyed the military capabilities of the Islamic group. Recall that Netanyahu swore that the war could end only after the destruction of Hamas. Israel hopes that the safe release of the hostages is still possible.

Hamas demands

On the other hand, Hamas wants an agreement that ends the war and ensures the release of Israeli and foreign hostages held in Gaza, as well as Palestinians imprisoned by Israel. Also, Qatar, which was trying to end the war between the two countries, has stopped its efforts because it feels that there is a lack of seriousness from both sides to end the war.
