Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has returned to domestic duty. He took part in the Ranji practice session with the Saurashtra team on Sunday morning. With Jadeja joining the practice session, it is being speculated that he can play for Saurashtra in the second leg of Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Saurashtra will face Delhi on January 23 at Ground C near Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot.
There is no statement yet from the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) officials whether he will play or not, but it is being said that there is every possibility of him playing. Jadeja last played a Ranji match in January 2023, leading Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu in Chennai.
Jadeja included in Team India’s squad for Champions Trophy BCCI on Saturday announced Team India for the ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy. At the Mumbai Wankhede Stadium, selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma revealed the names of the 15-member Indian team. 4 all-rounders have been kept in the squad. Playing domestic became mandatory in the review meeting. Last week BCCI reviewed the performance of the Indian team at the BCCI head quarter in Mumbai. During the meeting, the board members stressed on senior players playing domestic cricket. Also it was made mandatory for players to play Ranji.
Gambhir and Gavaskar had advised senior players to play Ranji After losing first to New Zealand and then in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Team India coach Gautam Gambhir had insisted on playing domestic cricket for India’s senior players.
Former captain Sunil Gavaskar and former coach Ravi Shastri had also told the players about domestic cricket. Gavaskar and former cricketer Harbhajan Singh had said that before the team selection for England tour, players should play in Ranji and the selection committee should ensure that they play in the county.
