Jhelum Express was stopped at Jalandhar Cantt due to farmer agitation, passengers were upset, said – not even getting food

Farmer organizations observed a strike across Punjab on Monday to press their demands including MSP for crops, the impact of which is being seen. Emergency services are open. More than 200 trains, including Vande Bharat and Shatabdi, besides private bus transporters were affected in the bandh.

Due to the farmers’ Punjab bandh, Railways has canceled many trains, while many trains had to be stopped here and there. Due to the bandh, Jhelum Express going from Pune to Jammu was stopped at Jalandhar Cantt on Monday. Passengers had to face a lot of trouble as the train was stopped for several hours.

Jhelum Express left Pune on Saturday and reached Jalandhar on Monday. The passengers traveling in the train have been traveling for the last three days. They will now have to wait till 4:00 pm in Jalandhar. Due to the train being stopped for several hours, there is a shortage of food and drink, due to which the passengers traveling are getting troubled.

Amit, a passenger traveling in the train, told that he is a resident of Jammu. I had gone to Shirdi before Jammu. Now he was going towards his home in Jammu by boarding Jhelum Express from Pune. But due to the farmers’ protest, the train has been stopped at Jalandhar Cantt railway station. He told that he does not even have any arrangement for food due to the protest. He is getting very upset due to not getting pure vegetarian food even in the train. He told that they also have small children with them, who are facing many problems regarding their food and drink.

Another passenger Bharat Bhushan told that he was sitting in Jhelum Express on Saturday from Pune to pay obeisance at Mata Vaishno Devi. He has been traveling by train for the last three days. Due to the farmers’ protest they will have to stay in Jalandhar till evening. He told that we do not have any arrangement for food and drink. Apart from tea, nothing else is available in the train.

At the same time, Vinod Kumar Gumber, who came from Moradabad in Jalandhar, told that he was going on the pilgrimage of Mata Shri Vaishno Devi. He was stopped due to the farmers’ protest in Jalandhar and his train was cancelled. Gumber told that the Railways did not provide him any further help for alternate trains. Due to which he had to book a hotel near Jalandhar Cantt station in Jalandhar and take a stay. He told that today he was fasting on Monday and he had to reach Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and perform Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva.

Let us tell you that farmer organizations had announced a bandh on Monday regarding their demands including legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops. The effect of the bandh is being seen throughout Punjab. However, emergency services are open. More than 200 trains, including Vande Bharat and Shatabdi, besides private bus transporters were affected in the bandh. The bandh was called in support of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for over a month demanding fulfillment of farmers’ demands.
