Changes in the Waqf Bill were approved by the Joint Committee of Parliament on Monday. The bill was introduced in Parliament with 14 changes in August last year. Earlier, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal proposed 44 changes, which was rejected by opposition members.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill has to submit its report during the budget session. The term of the committee was extended during the winter session of Parliament. The Waqf Act 1995, formed to regularize Waqf properties, has been criticized for issues like Miss-Management, Corruption and Encroachment.
10 members were suspended after uproar in JPC In the meeting of JPC in Delhi on 24 January, opposition members created a ruckus claimed that they were not given enough time for research on the proposed changes in the draft. It is alleged that the BJP is insisting on presenting the report on the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament keeping in mind the Delhi elections. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said that the proceedings of the committee have become a spectacle. The committee suspended 10 opposition MPs including Banerjee-Owaisi for a day.
Hurriyat leader said- Amendment against Muslims After the January 24 meeting, Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq of Jammu and Kashmir said, ‘It has been given arbitrary powers to the collector. By ordering and changing the entries recorded in revenue records, Waqf Property has been given full right to show government property. These amendments are completely against the Muslim community.
BJP MP said- Opposition does not want report to be presented On the meeting held in Delhi, JPC President Jagdambika Pal said- I had allowed all JPC members to express their views. He said that when I tried to answer his questions, he used slogans, noise, unparliamentary words and created a lot of uproar. Opposition MPs were not allowing the meeting to move forward. He tried to weaken democracy. Stopping the proceedings of the meeting is part of their strategy and they do not want the report to be submitted.

The budget session of Parliament will start from 31 January and run till 4 April. The Central Budget will be presented on 1 February. The aim of Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 is to solve these challenges by bringing improvements in legal systems to withdraw digitization, better transparency and illegal occupied assets.
The first meeting was held on 22 August Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced Waqf Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha on 8 August. Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, opposed this bill and described it as anti -Muslim.
The bill was sent to JPC without any discussion in the Lok Sabha amidst the objection of the opposition and heavy opposition. The first meeting of the 31 -member JPC on the Waqf Bill Amendment was held on 22 August. There have been 34 meetings in the heart alone. 44 amendments were to be discussed in the bill.
