The Joint Parliamentary Committee will submit its report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill during the budget session. The budget session of Parliament will start from 31 January and run till 4 April.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of the Parliament, which is investigating the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, approved the report on Wednesday. 16 members voted in its favor. At the same time, 11 members protested.
JPC President Jagdambika Pal said, now this report will be presented before Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday. He will take further action.
Opposition MPs involved in the committee objected to this bill. AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, “We received a 655 -page report last night.” It is impossible to read the 655-page report overnight. I have disagreed and will oppose this bill in Parliament as well.
Time was given till 4 pm to express disagreement So far, Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee and Nademul Haque as well as DMK MP A Raja, AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs Arvind Sawant and Asaduddin Owaisi have formally registered their disagreement. The remaining members have been given time to disagree till 4 pm on 29 January.
DMK MP A Raja said- Supreme Court will go against Waqf law
DMK has said that after the passage of this bill, the Supreme Court has said to file a petition against it. JPC member DMK MP A Raja claimed that this proposed law would be unconstitutional and his party would turn to the Supreme Court against it. The arguments and documents presented in the committee will help challenge this law.
A Raja said that BJP MP Jagdambika Pal carried out the proceedings of the committee on his own will. He made fun of this process. I think the report is also prepared in advance.
10 members were suspended after uproar in JPC Opposition members created a ruckus in the JPC meeting held in Delhi on 24 January. He claimed that he was not given enough time for research on the proposed changes in the draft. It is alleged that the BJP is insisting on presenting the report on the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament keeping in mind the Delhi elections. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said that the proceedings of the committee have become a spectacle. The committee suspended 10 opposition MPs including Banerjee-Owaisi for a day.
BJP MP said- Opposition does not want report to be presented On the meeting held in Delhi, JPC President Jagdambika Pal said- I had allowed all JPC members to express their views. He said that when I tried to answer his questions, he used slogans, noise, unparliamentary words and created a lot of uproar. Opposition MPs were not allowing the meeting to move forward. He tried to weaken democracy. Stopping the proceedings of the meeting is part of their strategy and they do not want the report to be submitted.

The first meeting was held on 22 August Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced Waqf Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha on 8 August. Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, opposed this bill and described it as anti -Muslim.
The bill was sent to JPC without any discussion in the Lok Sabha amidst the objection of the opposition and heavy opposition. The first meeting of the 31 -member JPC on the Waqf Bill Amendment was held on 22 August. 44 amendments were to be discussed in the bill.
