Apart from this, important discussions have also taken place between the counterparts of the two countries regarding sharing of data on cross-border rivers, direct flights between India and China and media exchange.

On the sidelines of the G20 summit in Brazil, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The foreign ministers of both the countries agreed that the withdrawal of troops from our border areas has contributed to maintaining peace and stability. The discussion focused on the next steps in India-China relations. It was also agreed that there would be a meeting soon between the Special Representatives and the Foreign Secretary-Deputy Minister.

On the global situation and international issues, the External Affairs Minister said that there are both differences and similarities between India and China. We have worked constructively in the BRICS and SCO framework. Our cooperation has also been clear in G20.

S Jaishankar said that we are strongly committed to a multipolar world including multipolar Asia. As far as India is concerned, its foreign policy has been principled and consistent, marked by independent thought and action.

India’s Foreign Minister said in the meeting with China’s Foreign Minister that we are against the unilateral approach of establishing dominance. India does not view its relations from the perspective of other countries.

Consensus reached on improving relations between the two countries

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also agreed with the Indian Foreign Minister that India-China relations have special importance in world politics. He said that our leaders had agreed in Kazan on the way forward. Both ministers felt that it was important that the focus should be on stabilizing relations, reducing differences and taking next steps.
