All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala on Monday urged the state government to take strict action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of legislative council (MLC) CT Ravi, who recently stormed the House. Had allegedly made derogatory remarks against Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar.

He termed BJP as “anti-women” and in Parliament last week, B. R. He targeted the party and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his alleged remarks against Ambedkar, which led to a political uproar.

Responding to a question from journalists here, Surjewala said, “BJP has repeatedly insulted the women of this country. The very character of BJP is anti-women, anti-youth, anti-farmer and anti-Dalit, tribal and backward class. The way BJP leaders are once again using derogatory language against women leaders is condemnable. I urge the Karnataka government to take strict action against the culprits.

Ravi had allegedly used derogatory words against Hebbalkar in the Legislative Council on December 19 when the House proceedings were briefly adjourned. Based on Hebbalkar’s complaint, he was arrested the same evening from the ‘Suvarna Vidhan Soudha’ complex in Belagavi and taken in a police van, where the legislature session was held.

The high court, in its interim order on December 20, had ordered Ravi’s immediate release, saying the police did not follow procedures in arresting him. However, Justice M.G. Uma’s bench asked Ravi to cooperate in the investigation and be available for questioning.

Responding to a question regarding the alleged use of derogatory words against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Surjewala said that whether it is Mahatma Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi, he will have to face opposition from the forces trying to divide the country. Perhaps this was the reason for the alleged dispute between Ravi and Minister Hebbalkar.

“Some people have lost their mental balance and just try to divert attention,” he said. They will make fun of Babasaheb Ambedkar, they will try to destroy the Constitution. When Amit Shah himself is insulting and mocking the makers of the Constitution like Babasaheb Ambedkar, will he spare Kharge (AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge) and Rahul Gandhi? When Mahatma Gandhi was alive, similar ideologies had opposed him.
