Modi Cabinet Decisions: On Wednesday, Union Information Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave information about the decisions taken in the Union Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi on Wednesday approved Kedarnath Rope-Way and Hemkund Ropeway project. It will be constructed under the mountain project. After the rope-way, it will be easy to go to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib. Apart from this, the Union Cabinet took many more decisions. The Cabinet has approved the development of the ropeway project from Sonprayag to Kedarnath (12.9 km) in the state of Uttarakhand under the National Rope -Way Development Program – Rangmala Project. It is planned to develop the ropeway in public-private partnership.
Kedarnath’s 8-9 hours distance will be completed in just 36 minutes
The rope-way project will be a boon for pilgrims coming to Kedarnath as it will provide environmentally friendly, comfortable and fast connectivity and will reduce travel time in one direction from about 8 to 9 hours to about 36 minutes.
It is known that every year during the Char Dham Yatra, a huge crowd of devotees going to Kedarnath throngs. The climb of Kedarnath is very inaccessible. In such a situation, it is very difficult to go here. With the formation of ropeway in Kedarnath, it will be easy to come and go here.
Construction of ropeway at Hemkund Sahib at a cost of 2730 crores
Regarding the decisions taken in the Union Cabinet, Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, “The cabinet has approved the development of a 12.4 km long ropeway project from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib Ji in Uttarakhand under the National Ropeway Development Program – Tare Rapatam Project.
The 12.4 km long rope-way project from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib will be developed on design, construction, finance, operation and transfer (DBFOT) mode, which will cost the total capital cost ₹ 2,730.13 crore.
Hemkund Sahib and tourists coming in the flower ghoti will get benefit
The proposed ropeway has been planned to facilitate the upcoming pilgrims and tourists visiting the Valley of flowers and it will ensure the final mile connectivity between Govindghat and Hemkund Sahib Ji in every season.

Hemkund Sahib’s 21 km journey will be easy
Currently the visit of Hemkund Sahib Ji is a challenging climb of 21 km from Govindghat and is completed by foot or ponies or palanquins. The proposed ropeway has been planned to facilitate the upcoming pilgrims and tourists visiting the Valley of Flowers and it will ensure the last miles up to the last miles between Govindghat and Hemkund Sahib Ji.
