The Kerala government has suspended the college principal Sulekha AT in the ragging case with nursing students in Kottayam, Kerala. Also, Assistant Professor and Hostel’s Warden Incharge Azish P Mani has also been removed. He is accused of failing to stop ragging and intervene in the matter on time.

According to the statement issued from the office of Kerala’s Health Minister, the hostel’s housekeeper and security guards have also been removed with immediate effect. The government has taken this action based on the investigation report of the Medical Education Director.

What is the whole matter

A case of ragging with Juniors was reported on 12 February at a government nursing college in Kerala. Five senior students took off the first clothes of 3 students. Then the dumbbell (heavy weight) was hung on his private part.

Seniors later injured the students with compass and sharp objects. After this, put a lotion on the wound. So that the pain increases further. When the victims shouted with pain, put lotion in their mouth too. The three victims are students of the first year and are residents of Thiruvananthapuram.

The accused also made a video of torture, then threatened

Seniors also made a video of their ragging by naked the victims. Along with this, he threatened that if he dared to report it, he would have to face serious consequences. Due to which their educational future will also be in danger.

The complaint also claimed that seniors used to charge money from juniors on Sunday to buy liquor. Those who refused to do so were beaten. A student, who could not tolerate more harassment anymore, informed his father about it. He lodged a complaint with the police. The accused students were suspended after the ragging case surfaced.

Police arrested 5 accused student

The police arrested 5 accused students on 13 February in this case. The Gandhinagar police had said that all have been sent on 2 days police remand. He was arrested under the Anti-Ragging Act. The names of the accused are Samuel Johnson (20), Rahul Raj (22), Jeeva (18), Rijil Jeet (20) and Vivek (21).
