Earlier, Nepal had given a tough fight to India in the opening match of the competition but the Indian players put pressure on Nepal from the first turn in the final. Earlier, after defeating Nepal, Brazil, Peru and Bhutan in the group stage, India had defeated Bangladesh in the quarter-finals and South Africa in the semi-finals.

He said that this victory has brought one of the oldest traditional sports of India into greater limelight and will inspire young players across the country. “Hopefully, this achievement will pave the way for more youth to take up the sport in the times to come,” the Prime Minister said. In another post, Modi praised the Indian men’s Kho-Kho team for winning the Kho-Kho World Cup title. Lauded the losing team.
