A Sri Lankan official said that the entire grid failed due to the monkey at around 11:30 am on Sunday morning (local time). Electricity was restored after several hours. The official said that some areas could not get electricity for more than five hours. Because of this people came out on the streets. Started shouting slogans against the local administration and the government.

Monkey entered inside the power grid substation

Giving more information about the matter, Sri Lankan Power Minister Kumar Jaikodi said that a monkey had come in contact with a substation of the power grid in Panadura, Colombo. The minister said that after a few hours the state power unit restored electricity in the national hospital and other major establishments. However, the local people continued to complain about the problem of no electricity.

Drinking water supply service also stalled due to lack of electricity

A local official has warned the people that drinking water supply service can also be affected badly due to the power service. At the same time, 90 minutes of power cuts are going to happen on Monday and Tuesday due to malfunction in coal power plant in Sri Lanka. The State Electricity Unit Ceylon Electricity Board has taken this decision on Monday in view of the lack of supply due to a 900 MW coal power plant malfunction in the northwestern area.

Announcement of electricity in different slots

The Ceylon Electricity Board said in a statement that the 90-minute rationing will take place in two slots between 3 pm and 9.30 pm in different areas on both days. The statement said that due to sudden power failure on Sunday, the operations at Lakvijay power station had to be stopped.
