More than 10 million devotees come every year to visit Mata Vaishno Devi. A case has been registered against eight people including social media influencer Ori for allegedly drinking alcohol at a hotel in Katra for Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage in Reasi district of Jammu. In such a situation, if you are going on a journey of Vaishno Devi, then you should know about strict rules while going to this holy site. The Jammu and Kashmir Police has made some rules related to the yatra which apply to 12 km travel from Katra to the holy cave and surrounding areas.

Know what are those 14 strict rules

  1. Alcohol is banned not only in Katra but also in nearby villages like Arrali, Hansali and Matial.

  2. Meat, chicken, seafood and eggs, all these are banned in Katra.
  3. Tobacco products – cigarettes, bidis, matches and other narcotics are prohibited from Banganga. Banganga is a sacred stop where many devotees take a bath before continuing their journey. The journey from here to the Vaishno Devi temple in the building is about 12-13 km.
  4. Lighters, scissors, toy, ax, knife, ax, cattle poles, lohadand, hammer, drill and razor-type blades (excluding the security razor) are banned from Banganga.
  5. Weapons and explosives – ammunition, Bibi guns, compressed air guns, firearms, parties of firearms, pellet guns and realistic replicas of weapons are strictly banned.
  6. Flamical substances – cooking fuel, gasoline and gas torches are not allowed to be taken beyond Banganga.
  7. Harmful chemicals – There is a ban on passive chemicals and other dangerous substances.
  8. Video Filming – Banned on video camera/camcorders route; Filming is not allowed further from Banganga.
  9. Coconut – The building is not allowed to be taken beyond the search site. In lieu of tokens, deposit your coconut in the main waiting room.
  10. Encouraging begging – begging is strictly forbidden.
  11. Property damage – pasting posters, writing on walls or damaging property is a punishable offense for which fines and imprisonment can occur.
  12. Slogans are not allowed inside the cave.
  13. Kanya Pujan (Worship of Girls Girls) – Strictly forbidden.
  14. No tip – no employee or person is allowed to give tip, Dakshina or any other gift.

Remembering for pilgrimage:

1. Get the official travel slip – get it only from the travel registration counter at the tourist reception center at the Katra bus stand. Without valid slip, Banganga check post is not allowed to cross.

2. Ensure appropriate receipts – Get official receipts for all payments made to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVSB) and private vendors. Always check the official rate list before paying.

3. Donate only to specified locations – only use the donation box provided by SMVSB. Donations at the authorized counters in Katra, Ardhkunwari, Sanjhi roof and building are tax-free under the Income Tax Act. Always get a formal receipt.

4. Respect fellow pilgrims – Avoid loud or inappropriate dress, objectionable language or rude gestures.

5. Walk on the prescribed paths – walk on pucca paths instead of stairs. In areas with warning marks, do not relax near landslide-prone areas, or do not try to overtake others in hard parts.

6. Protect precious items – Avoid carrying excessive cash, jewelry or valuables. Do not hand over your belongings to strangers. Submit the additional accessories into the clockerroom, as it is allowed to carry only cash and special offerings inside the holy cave.

7. Follow philosophy processes – Wait for the announcement of your group number before proceeding to visit gate number 1. Do not crowd or try to get out of the queue.

8. Bhairon Darshan – Bhairon temple is seen only after darshan in the holy cave. So go there and see
