His sisters were named Asha, Meena, and Usha, while her brother’s name was Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Everyone made music their profession. Lata Mangeshkar’s father died in 1942, when she was only 13 years old, and after that all the responsibility of the family came on her shoulders.

Lata Mangeshkar has been awarded several major awards for her unique contribution and excellence in Indian music. He has received the Padma Bhushan in 1969, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989 and Padma Vibhushan, Bharat Ratna in 2001, and the Lifetime Achievement Award on the 60th anniversary of Independence Day in 2008.
