Mahakumbh 2025: World’s largest religious event, business can be worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore

Mahakumbh 2025, which started from today in Prayagraj, UP, which will continue till February, is the world’s largest human gathering. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, about 40 crore people are likely to attend this event. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has estimated that this Mahakumbh is expected to generate business worth more than ₹ 2 lakh crore.

National General Secretary of CAT and MP from Chandni Chowk, Delhi, Praveen Khandelwal said that this event is going to become the biggest center of religious economy in India and the world. This will give a big boost to business in Prayagraj and surrounding cities. Along with this, railways, air services and road transport are also likely to earn huge income. He told that since Delhi is the largest trade distribution center of the country, from this point of view, goods and services worth about ₹ 40,000 crore will be supplied from Delhi to Prayagraj and surrounding cities.

Praveen Khandelwal said that there will be a large amount of economic and business activities in Mahakumbh. According to an estimate, if ₹5,000 is spent per person during the religious pilgrimage, the total figure will exceed ₹2 lakh crore. This includes large-scale spending on hotels, dharamshalas, temporary stays, food, puja materials, health services and other goods and services.

  • Accommodation and Tourism: There is a business potential of ₹40,000 crore from local hotels, dharamshalas and temporary stay arrangements.
  • Food and beverages: There will be business worth up to ₹20,000 crore on packaged food items, water, biscuits, juices, and food.
  • Pooja material and Prasad: A business of ₹ 20,000 crore is expected from the sale of oil, lamps, Ganga water, idols, incense sticks, religious books etc.
  • Transport and Logistics: Local and interstate transport, freight and taxi services will generate business worth ₹10,000 crore.
  • Tourism Services: Estimated business of ₹10,000 crore from tour guides, travel packages and tourist services.
  • Handicrafts and souvenirs: Income of ₹5,000 crore from local products, clothes, jewelery and souvenirs.
  • Health and medical services: ₹3,000 crore business from temporary medical camps, Ayurvedic products and medicines.
  • IT and digital services: ₹1,000 crore business from digital payments, Wi-Fi services, and e-ticketing.
  • Entertainment and Media: Business worth ₹10,000 crore from advertising and promotional activities.
