A massive fire broke out on Sunday in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh Mela going on in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, due to which about 20 camps were burnt to ashes. However, fire brigade personnel completely brought the fire under control immediately. There has been no casualty in this accident. According to initial information, the fire was caused by a cylinder burst. However, the police are talking about a detailed investigation. After the incident, CM Yogi Adityanath reached the spot in the fair area and took stock of the situation.
Prayagraj DM Ravindra Kumar said that the fire broke out in the tent of Geeta Press in Sector 19 at 4.30 pm. Within no time the fire spread to 10 nearby tents. Police and administration teams have reached the spot. The fire has been extinguished. There is no report of any casualty. The situation is under control. DIG Vaibhav Krishna said that the tent of Geeta Press was on fire. There is no news of any casualty. A survey is being conducted to find out the damage caused by the fire. The fire has been brought under control. The reason behind the fire is a matter of investigation. Only the tent and some belongings were burnt.
On the incident of fire in Mahakumbh, UP government minister AK Sharma said that I have met the officials and the people responsible of Geeta Press… I have received information that 3 cylinders burst and due to this the fire spread. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. There were around 100 people in the camp but with the blessings of Mother Ganga there were no casualties.
Krishna Kumar Khemka, trustee of Geeta Press Gorakhpur, said, “This camp is a joint camp of All India Religion Association and Geeta Press. We have made it very carefully and everyone has been prohibited from doing any activity related to fire. The area on our western border has been declared a circulating area. I don’t know to whom the administration has given that area, nothing came from our side. Save God’s. “Thankfully there were no casualties.”
Earlier, Chief Fire Officer of Maha Kumbh Mela, Pramod Sharma said that information about fire was received in Sector 19 at around 4.30 pm and fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the spot. “The fire was completely brought under control in about an hour,” he said. About 15-16 vehicles were deployed to extinguish the fire. 18 tents were destroyed in this fire. “Many LPG cylinders also exploded as the fire spread.” Sharma said that there is no information about any casualty or injury in this incident.

The post from the official ‘X’ handle of Maha Kumbh 2025 said, “Very sad! The fire incident in Mahakumbh has shocked everyone. The administration is ensuring immediate relief and rescue operations. We pray to Mother Ganga for everyone’s safety.” A video clip has also been shared from the social media platform, in which a plume of black smoke is seen rising from the affected area.
Mahakumbh 2025 started from Paush Purnima on 13 January and will continue till 26 February. According to official data available till Saturday, more than 7.72 crore people have taken the holy dip in the Sangam so far. Officials said that on Sunday (today) alone, more than 46.95 lakh devotees have taken a dip in the holy Sangam.
