Manipur: NPP withdraws support from Biren Singh government


New Delhi:

NPP has Biren Singh led by Manipur Government Has withdrawn support from. In view of the violence in Manipur, NPP has decided to withdraw support.

However, even after NPP withdrew its support, the government is safe because NPP was not in alliance with BJP in Manipur. After the elections he had given support from outside.

NPP says that the Chief Minister has completely failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy in the state. An ally, even if small, has moral if not numerical strength.

NPP has seven members in the 60-member assembly.

The BJP currently has 37 seats on its own, much more than the half-majority mark of 31. This also includes five MLAs from Janata Dal (United), who joined BJP in late 2022.

Apart from this, BJP also has the support of five Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLAs, one JDU MLA and three independent MLAs.

It is noteworthy that recently violence has once again increased in the state. After this, the state government has imposed indefinite curfew in 5 districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching.

Internet services were also suspended in seven districts as authorities struggled to control the situation. Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi has ordered suspension of internet and mobile data services, citing misinformation and the possibility of further increase in violence.
