Manmohan Singh’s memorial may be built near Rajghat: Center suggests site to family; Trust will be formed to acquire land, only he will apply

Dr. Manmohan Singh’s memorial is likely to be built near the mausoleums of the Gandhi-Nehru family.

The work of allotment of land to build a memorial of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has started. According to media reports, the Central Government has suggested some places for the memorial to Dr. Singh’s family.

Once the place is selected by the family, further action will be initiated. According to sources, there is a possibility of Dr. Singh’s memorial being built near the mausoleums of Gandhi-Nehru family.

One and a half acre land can be given for the memorial. For this, officials of the Urban Development Ministry have also visited Rajghat and its surroundings.

According to the new policy, land can be allotted only to a trust. For this reason a trust will have to be formed first. Only the Trust will apply for the land.

Dr. Manmohan Singh died on the night of 26 December. His funeral took place on 28 December at Nigambodh Ghat.

Congress had written a letter to Modi-Shah regarding the memorial… Kharge had asked for land for the memorial (27 December): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had written a letter to PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the evening of 27 December, saying that a memorial should be built there where the last rites of Dr. Singh take place. However, the Home Ministry had conducted the last rites at Nigambodh Ghat. Congress had expressed displeasure over this and said that this is an insult to the former PM.

BJP said- land has been allotted (28 December): On the allegation of land not being given for the memorial, BJP President JP Nadda had said on December 28 – Space has been allotted for Dr. Singh’s memorial. His family has also been informed about this. However, Nadda did not tell where the land was given.

Congress had shared Kharge’s letter to PM Modi on its X handle.

Union Minister Hardeep Puri said – Congress is spreading lies There was a lot of politics between the Congress and the Central Government regarding the memorial of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Congress alleges that the Central Government did not give the respect that should have been given to the former Prime Minister for his funeral and memorial as per his stature.

In this matter, on December 29, Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said – Congress is openly spreading lies regarding the memorial of Dr. Manmohan Singh ji. There is Ekta Sthal in Delhi. Here, memorials of former Prime Ministers and former Presidents have been built at 7 out of 9 sites.

There are 2 spaces vacant for the memorial. The Congress President has written a letter to the government demanding the construction of a special memorial. The government has approved it, but the process will take time. Trust will have to be built, only that will build the memorial. Same thing happened during Vajpayee ji’s time also.

Vajpayee’s funeral took place at Rajghat, a memorial was also built there. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee died on 16 August 2018. His last rites took place at the National Memorial Rajghat on 18 August 2018. On 25 December 2018, a memorial of Atal Bihari Vajpayee was built on 1.5 acres of land at Rajghat.
