Manu Bhakar has won 2 bronze medals in shooting in Paris Olympics.
Shooter Manu Bhakar on Tuesday broke his silence on the controversy over his name not being in the Khel Ratna Award list. He said, ‘I believe that perhaps there was some mistake on my part while filing the nomination, which is being rectified.
Bhakar said, ‘I am excited for the award, but that is not my ultimate goal. I will keep trying to win more medals for my country.
The Sports Ministry has not released this list yet. This claim is being made only in the media. According to reports, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) had not sent Bhakar’s name for Khel Ratna, but after the controversy over this, now the association itself has approached the Sports Ministry for nomination.
The Sports Ministry is also now preparing for Manu’s nomination. The government can give Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award to Manu Bhaker. The ministry can nominate Manu under Articles 5.1 and 5.2. It is said in the rules that if the player fulfills the guidelines given for Khel Ratna, then he himself can send his name for the award. Apart from this, the Ministry also has the authority to send 2 such names.

What is the use of playing for the country and winning medals, when one has to spread hands for respect. She has been continuously applying for all the awards for the last two-three years and I am a witness to this. This includes Khel Ratna, Padmashree and Padma Bhushan awards. After this the Sports Ministry came on the backfoot.
