Manu has played national in boxing
Manu Bhakar was born on 18 February 2002 in Goriya village of Jhajjar district. Now his family lives in Faridabad. Manu’s father’s name is Ramkishan, mother’s name is Sumedha and brother’s name is Akhil. Manu has been a national player of boxing. He had given up boxing due to being punched in the eye. After this Manu also did martial arts, archery, tennis and skating. Finally Manu started shooting.
The Universal School where Manu’s mother was the principal also has a shooting range. Mother sent Manu to the shooting range with father. As soon as Manu hit the first shot, physical teacher Anil Jakhar recognized his talent. He told Manu’s mother to let Manu give time to this game, she will bring medals for the country.
Manu Bhakar had won bronze medal in single event and mixed event in shooting in Paris Olympics 2024.
Mother wanted Manu to become a doctor
Manu’s mother wanted her daughter to become a doctor because there was no doctor in the house. Sumedha tells that Manu was good at studies. She was especially strong in Biology. To prepare for the medical entrance exam, he had also visited a coaching center in Kota. Just then physical teacher Anil Jakhar entered. He told Manu’s mother to give Manu to him for a few days. I want him to shoot. Manu was only 14 years old then.
At that time Rio Olympics-2016 had just ended. Manu asked his father to bring him a shooting pistol within a week. The father agreed to the daughter’s request and gave her the pistol. Just one year later, Manu won a medal at the national level and got selected for the junior program of the Shooting Federation. There he got the support of international medalist Jaspal Rana. Jaspal Rana is Manu’s coach right now
Was going to leave shooting in 2021
However, after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, there came a time when Manu was about to leave shooting also. Here she was out of the qualifying round due to pistol malfunction. She became so sad that her mother even had to hide the pistol. However, she started shooting again and defeated world number one shooter Heena Sidhu in the National Championship. After which she reached Paris Olympics.
