The Maharashtra government has made Marathi mandatory for all kinds of dialogues in Government and Semi-Government offices. According to the order, the use of Marathi will also be necessary in all urban bodies, government corporations and aided institutions. Marathi got classical language status in 2024

According to the Maharashtra Official Language Act 1964, all the official documents including proposals, letters and circulars in the state should be held in Marathi. The Marathi language policy approved in 2024 recommended the use of Marathi in all public affairs for the protection, promotion, spread and development of language.

In October last year, the central government gave Marathi a classical language status, meeting Marathi, meeting for a long time. The Center had said that with the status of classical language, especially employment opportunities will increase in education and research fields.
