New Delhi:
The political battle of Delhi is taking place. Contests have been fixed on almost all the seats. Now the process of filling the forms is going on. In this respect, Wednesday was the hottest day in Delhi. Nominations have been filed on the hottest seat of Delhi i.e. New Delhi seat. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal filed the nomination. Before this, former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma’s son and BJP candidate Pravesh also filed his nomination in the morning. Congress has fielded Sandeep Dikshat on this seat. It is said about New Delhi seat that the path to power passes through here. The government has been formed by the party that won the New Delhi seat. Just understand some equations of this hot of Delhi.

2013 | Arvind Kejriwal | AAP | 53.5% |
2015 | Arvind Kejriwal | AAP | 64.1% |

2013 to 2020, how AAP swept away Congress votes
2013 Assembly elections: Party | seats | vote percentage |
AAP | 28 | 30% |
BJP | 31 | 33% |
Congress | 8 | 25% |
After 2013, the 2015 assembly elections in Delhi proved to be a nightmare for the Congress. Aam Aadmi Party pulled the political ground from under the feet of Congress. Congress, which had 25 percent vote share in 2013, was left with only 10 percent votes in 2015. The seats also became zero. BJP also felt a big blow. Its seats came down from 31 to 3, but it did not lose its support base like Congress. Its vote share declined by 1 percent. Look in the tables above and below.
2015 Assembly Elections: Party | seats | vote percentage |
AAP | 67 | 54% |
BJP | 3 | 32% |
Congress | 0 | 10% |
2020 assembly elections: Congress zero, but BJP’s support base increased
…and the 2020 elections proved even worse for Congress. In 2013, the vote percentage of Congress, which had 25 percent support base in Delhi, fell to 4 percent. If Congress keeps distance from AAP in the 2025 assembly elections, this is also a major reason for this. Congress has nothing left to lose in Delhi. By contesting the elections alone, she is trying to consolidate her support base. This yearning is visible behind fielding Sandeep Dixit from the New Delhi seat. Rahul’s sarcasm on Kejriwal on Delhi’s Paris street also shows that the words will be sharp in the elections. But the biggest question is whether Congress will spoil the game by entering Delhi strongly?
2020 Assembly Elections: Party | seats | vote percentage |
AAP | 62 | 54% |
BJP | 8 | 39% |
Congress | 0 | 4% |
Kejriwal took blessings of Bajrangbali
Kejriwal will also visit Valmiki Temple and Hanuman Temple to seek blessings of God before filing nomination. Arvind Kejriwal shared the information on social media platform X. Wrote, “Today I am going to file my nomination. Many of my mothers and sisters from all over Delhi will go with me to bless me. Before the nomination, I will go to Valmiki Temple and Hanuman Temple to seek blessings of the Lord.” Kejriwal’s wife Sunita will also be with him on this occasion.
At the same time, Pravesh Verma wrote, “Har Har Mahadev. Took the blessings of Mahadev and Maa Gaura at the Gauri Shankar temple in Chandni Chowk on the auspicious time of nomination. With their blessings, this journey will be dedicated to the service and development of Delhi. Your love, Support and blessings will make this resolve stronger.”

Why New Delhi seat high profile
New Delhi seat is a high profile seat because from here former CM and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal will face the sons of two former CMs. BJP candidate Parvesh Verma is the son of late former CM Sahib Singh Verma, while Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit is the son of former CM Sheila Dikshit, who scored a hat-trick of victories. In 2013, 2015 and 2020, Arvind Kejriwal of Aam Aadmi Party contested and went on to win. He had defeated Sheila Dikshit.
Kejriwal fielded 3 times from New Delhi
Arvind Kejriwal contested the New Delhi Assembly seat thrice, and won all three times with a huge margin. In 2013, she defeated Sheila Dikshit by a margin of 25,864 votes. In the 2015 assembly elections, she defeated her nearest rival Nupur Sharma of BJP by a margin of 31,583 votes. In the 2020 assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal defeated BJP’s Sunil Yadav by 21,697 votes. But this time the competition is different from the previous competitions. In the 2025 elections, he is contesting against two former MPs Sandeep Dixit and Pravesh Verma. This is the reason why it has become the most discussed seat.
