  2. 75 percent of sickle cell patients are in 5 tribal dominated districts of Madhya Pradesh.
  3. In sickle cell the shape of red blood cells becomes sickle-like.

Naiduniya Representative, Indore. The central and state governments are making continuous efforts to reduce the rapidly increasing number of sickle cell patients in tribal areas. Under this, the state’s first modern molecular lab has been started in MY Hospital.

In this, we are now finding out in the womb itself whether the child is suffering from sickle cell. There is no cure for sickle cell disease. In such a situation, parents face a lot of problems in taking care of the child. The lab established in MYH is one of the selected medical colleges in the country.

Let us tell you that according to the plan of the Government of India, sickle cell is to be eradicated in 2047. Under this program, sickle cell survey is going on in the districts of Dhar, Jhabua, Alirajpur etc. of the division. Under this, a lab has been started in the Transfusion Medicine Department to provide facilities to the patients.

If the parents are affected then the child is also at risk of sickle cell.

Superintendent Dr. Ashok Yadav said that complete modern facilities are being provided to children suffering from sickle cell in the Molecular Lab. His bone marrow transplant is also being done. If both parents have sickle cell disease, their children are more likely to have it.

In such a situation, efforts are being made to find out at the molecular level by examining the fetus whether the child in the womb is suffering from sickle cell. Its objective is to reduce the number of new sickle cell patients and to provide modern treatment to the suffering patients.

Let us tell you that currently 1400 patients suffering from sickle cell anemia are registered in MYH. Most of these patients are from Jhabua-Alirajpur district.

75 percent patients in five districts of the state

The prevalence of symptoms in the tribal population in India is about 10 percent and the prevalence of the disease is one percent. 27 out of 45 districts of Madhya Pradesh fall in the sickle cell zone. 75 percent of sickle cell patients in the state are from tribal districts Alirajpur, Anuppur, Chhindwara, Jhabua and Dindori.

Prime Minister or President was about to inaugurate the lab

The possibility of virtually inaugurating the Molecular Lab was being expressed to the Prime Minister or the President on the occasion of Tribal Pride Day on 15th November, but it could not happen. After this, the hospital started investigation at its own level from January 1.

This is sickle cell anemia

In sickle cell anemia, the shape of red blood cells becomes sickle-like, due to which sufferers start suffering from many problems including anemia and joint pain. There is no cure for this disease. By saving the marital relationship between a carrier man and woman, the birth of a child suffering from this disease can be prevented.

State ranks first in sickle cell screening

Madhya Pradesh has met its annual target in sickle cell screening campaign ahead of schedule. So far, 100 percent target has been achieved by doing sickle cell screening of a total of 90,98,902 people in the state. Besides, it is at first place in the country by achieving the achievement of distribution of 53,87,892 sickle cell cards (59.21 percent).
