1. Donald Trump becomes US President again; Said- Will create a new department for tariffs on other countries
Donald Trump took oath as the President of America for the second time at the Capitol Building (Parliament) in Washington DC.
Donald Trump took oath as the 47th President of America. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath to him. JD Vance took oath as Vice President before Trump. More than 700 leaders and celebrities including Italy’s PM Georgia Meloni, Argentina’s President Javier Mili, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar were present at the ceremony. After the oath, Trump gave a 30-minute speech. He said-
From today, the official policy of the American government will be that there will be only two genders in the country – male and female. Instead of taxing our own citizens, we will impose tariffs and taxes on other countries. We are going to impose 10 to 20% tariff on those countries which have been looting us for years. We will have to impose 60% tariff on China. Maybe it could be more than this.

2. Life imprisonment to the accused in Kolkata rape-murder case; Court said- this is not the rarest of rare case
Sanjay Roy was arrested on August 10, the second day after the incident. Convicted on day 162. The sentence was pronounced on the 164th day.
Sanjay Roy, convicted of rape-murder of a trainee doctor, was sentenced to life imprisonment on the night of August 8 at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. Sealdah Court said, ‘This is not the rarest of rare case. Death penalty cannot be given. The court imposed a fine of Rs 50 thousand on Sanjay and asked the state government to pay compensation of Rs 17 lakh to the victim’s family. However the family refused to take it.
Sanjay’s family said- will not appeal against the decision: Sanjay’s family said that even if he is hanged. We will not appeal against the decision. Sanjay’s mother said that I understand the pain of that girl’s parents, I also have daughters. On the other hand, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said, ‘We will go to the High Court against the decision of the trial court.’ Read the full news here…
3. In Kerala, a 24-year-old girl was sentenced to death for killing her boyfriend by poisoning him.

Thiruvananthapuram Court of Kerala sentenced the 24 year old girl to death. In October 2022, the girl had mixed poison in Ayurvedic tonic and made her boyfriend drink it, he died 11 days later. The girl’s marriage was fixed somewhere else, so she killed her boyfriend to get rid of him. While giving the sentence the court said-
This is the rarest of the rare case. The girl betrayed the man who loved her and this did not send a good message to the society.
What is the whole matter: On 14 October 2022, Grishma called Sharon Raj to her house in Ramavarmanchirai, Kanyakumari. He was poisoned by mixing paraquat (dangerous herbicide) in Ayurvedic tonic. As soon as Sharon left Grishma’s house, his health started deteriorating and he started vomiting. The family members admitted him to the hospital. Sharon, 23, died in hospital 11 days later on October 25. Grishma had tried to kill Sharon several times before. Read the full news here…

The accused of attack on Saif Ali Khan was a wrestling player; Police said- slept at the bus stop after the attack Mumbai Police said that the accused in the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan was a wrestling player from Bangladesh. Because of this he had an upper hand on Saif. Shariful Islam was arrested on Sunday. According to the police, after the incident he slept at the bus stand. He changed his clothes before leaving for Thane.
Action will be taken against Bangladeshi infiltrators in Delhi: Delhi LG VK Saxena has directed the police to launch a special campaign to identify Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators in the state. Saxena wrote in a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner, ‘Because of Bangladeshis living in the capital, local people are finding it difficult to get employment. 5. SC said- There should be a ban on contesting elections from jail; Delhi riots accused Tahir Hussain not granted bail Delhi riots accused Tahir Hussain had applied for bail in the Supreme Court. There was a case list, but the hearing could not take place. Tahir’s advocate requested for hearing. On this Justice Mittal said-
Now they contest elections sitting in jail. It is easy to win elections by sitting in jail. All of them should be stopped from contesting elections.
Former AAP councilor Tahir has been given ticket by Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM from Mustafabad seat for Delhi Assembly elections. The bail plea will be heard today.
What are the allegations against Tahir: Tahir is accused of murdering IB officer Ankit Sharma on 25 February 2020 during the Delhi riots. Tahir had sought interim bail from the High Court from January 14 to February 9 for election campaign. On January 13, the High Court had said that nomination can be filed even from jail. 6. Rishabh Pant becomes the captain of Lucknow Super Giants; Franchise owner said- He will prove to be the most successful captain of IPL

Rishabh Pant will be the new captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He will replace KL Rahul. Pant has taken over the captaincy of Delhi Capitals. The franchise had bought Pant for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction of November-2024. He became the most expensive player in IPL history. LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka said- Pant can become the best captain of IPL.
Pant’s performance as captain: Pant has previously led Delhi Capitals in three seasons (2021, 2022 and 2024), although under his captaincy the team reached the 2021 playoffs.
