Mhow, the birthplace of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who has become the pivot of Dalit politics in the country, is going to become the center of political test for Congress and BJP. Congress is organizing a rally on January 27 under the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Constitution’ campaign, while BJP will field its stalwarts, who will be vocal in calling Congress anti-Ambedkar. ,
In fact, the figures of Dalit votes and seats in the Lok Sabha elections have increased the activism of Congress and BJP. If we look at SC seats, in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress went from six to 20, while BJP went from 46 to 30.
However, figures show that the vote share is 31 percent with BJP and 19 percent with Congress. If we look at SC reserved seats in the 2023 assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, BJP has won 26 seats, while Congress has won nine seats.
Congress strategy
- It is believed that Rahul Gandhi has given a free hand to Jitu Patwari to be vocal about Dalit politics in Madhya Pradesh. Here, in the race to help the Dalit class, Congress has intensified its preparations.
- Party President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and MP Priyanka Vadra will attend the Mhow rally and will try to garner sympathy by terming Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s alleged statement as anti-Dalit.
What will BJP do?
- BJP will answer Congress by bringing senior BJP leaders to the state. BJP knows that the message Congress wants to send by making political use of Dr. Ambedkar’s birthplace can go far, hence it will respond aggressively.
- BJP will tell how Congress considered the Dalit class only as a vote bank and did nothing for it. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav himself is putting forward the fact that everyone from Nehru to Rahul Gandhi is anti-Ambedkar.

Challenge for BJP, enthusiasm in Congress
If we look at the figures of SC reserved seats in the Lok Sabha election results from 2009 to 2024, the increasing difficulties of the BJP become clear. BJP had got 12 seats in 2009 and 40 seats in 2014, while after reaching 46 in the Modi wave of 2019, it came down to 30 in 2024.
