Mumbai bombing: How Yakub Memon reached the noose hanging in the quarrel of Devrani-Jethani

Devrani-Jethani, Nananda-Bhabhi, mother-in-law, and mother-in-law, etc. are a common thing in the joint families of India, but this story is such where such a knock hanged a man on the noose. The story is connected, in which 257 people were killed and about seven hundred and fifty people were injured by the serial blasts in Mumbai on 12 March 1993. When the Mumbai Police started investigating the bombings, he found that he was done by the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI with the help of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Dawood used Tiger Memon’s smuggling network to bring the RDX used in the blast to Mumbai. Tiger Memon himself was also burning in the fire of revenge, as the rioters set fire to his office in Mahim area in the January 1993 riots.

Yakub was the most educated among his brothers

On the afternoon of March 12, the bomb blasts in different areas of Mumbai were prepared in the parking of the building in Mahim area where Tiger Memon lived. RDX was filled in all scooters and the people of Tiger had put them in different areas of Mumbai and according to the time planted in the timer. Before the blasts, Tiger Memon left Mumbai with all his brothers and his wives. First he went to Dubai and then Karachi from there. In Karachi, ISI arranged for their stay and food, etc. The brothers who went with him with Tiger were also Yakub Memon. Yakub was a chartered accountant by profession and was also the most educated among all the brothers. He used to keep the account of Tiger’s black business. According to the Mumbai Police- Yakub was not only aware of the entire conspiracy, but he also played a role in executing the conspiracy. Along with Yakub, his wife Raheen also reached Karachi.

Jacob and Tiger’s wives did not freeze together

Tiger and Yakub’s family lived in the same house in Karachi. Raheen’s Tiger’s wife was not free from Mumbai with Shabana and while living together in Mahim’s house, there used to be a knock between the two. It continued in Karachi too. There were daily fights in Shabana and Raheen. Shabana used to taunt Raheen. Troubled by Shabana, Raheen used to complain to Yakub daily and pressurize him to stay separate.

Raheen used to cry in front of Jacob

One night when Jacob returned home from somewhere, Raheen cried and told him that Shabana again quarreled with him. ‘How long will we turn on their pieces, now it is not tolerated’. Yakub was also fed up with daily discord and decided to return to India. He felt that since his role in the conspiracy is less, he will either be acquitted or will come out after being in jail for a few years. Elder brother Tiger Memon explained that going back would prove to be dangerous, but did not listen to Jacob.

Had to climb when returning to the country

A few days later, news came that the CBI has arrested Yakub Memon from New Delhi Railway Station. A few days later, his family also came into CBI custody. He was prosecuted in a special TADA court of Mumbai for about 15 years. TADA court judge PD Kode found him guilty of conspiracy to bombing and sentenced him to death. The date of 30 July 2015 was confirmed to hang. Suspense remained overnight before hanging. The eminent people of the country approached the Supreme Court at night and demanded to stop the hanging of Yakub. After a few hours of hearing, the court rejected the application and then a jailed soldier playing the role of executioner pulled the lever of the hanging yard of Nagpur jail.
