National Vaccination Day: Gujarat’s record performance with 95.95% vaccination in SDG 3 Index

As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to ‘every mother-child healthy’, Gujarat has performed better than the national average (93.23%) by vaccinating 95.95% in the Universal Immunization Program (UIP) under the Mission Index as per the SDG-3 index. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state government has taken effective initiative to provide vaccination services to newborns and pregnant women, due to which these positive results have been achieved.

Let us tell you that on the occasion of this year’s National Immunization Day, the Health Department of Gujarat is also going to conduct a special vaccination campaign for measles/rubella (MR) on 15-16 March.

Average coverage of complete vaccination in Gujarat in 2024 98%

During the year 2024-25 (April-February), the entire average vaccination coverage of 1 year old children in Gujarat was 98%. Talking about some of these vaccines data, the vaccination coverage of Basalis Calmet Gurin (BCG) was 96%, 95%of Panchguni (DPT+Hep-B+HIB), and Khasra/Rubella (MR) vaccinated coverage was 97%. It is noteworthy that the unique and special initiatives of the state government behind this achievement of vaccination coverage in Gujarat, such as ‘Dhanvantari Rath’, ‘Gota Express’ and ‘Mobile Mamta Divas’ (vaccination services in remote areas) have a major contributor.

Resolve to deliver vaccination to every child under intensive mission rainbow

Under the intensive Mission Indradhanush of the Central Government, the Gujarat government has implemented the intensive vaccination campaign of all children and pregnant women of 0-2 with great effectiveness. This has recorded more than 20% increase in vaccination coverage under Mission Indradhanush. So far, under all stages of this campaign, 9,95,395 children and 2,25,960 pregnant women of the state have been vaccinated. This mission is an attempt to reach those children, who are deprived of regular vaccination due to some reason.

Protection of every child’s smile giving the Khilkhilat campaign of Gujarat

The Khilkhilat vehicle of the Gujarat government has also spread a smile in the lives of millions of children of the state. This year, between 16-22 January 2025, the state government ran special ‘Khilkhilat Vaccination Campaign’ to 25,736 children BCG, OPV, Penta, IPV, ROTA, PCV, MR and DPT vaccines. Not only this, the state government carried out several special vaccination campaigns and specially targeted Vadodara, Surat, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Morbi for vaccination, which has led to a significant increase in its coverage.

18 lakh+ children got vaccinated in school-Balawatika in 3 years

The Government of Gujarat has adopted the Inter Department Coordination process in the last 3 years for extensive vaccination of diseases like Tetanus-Diptheria. Under this, after coordinating with the Education Department, the Health Department of the Government of Gujarat was vaccinated in the school itself and in 2024, the second dose of DPT vaccine was given to the five -year -old children in Bal Vatika. More than 18 lakh children were given vaccination, including both categories.

Gujarat’s decisive victory against polio

It is noteworthy that Gujarat did not register a single polio case from 2007 to 2024, which is a major success of the state’s effective vaccination efforts. On the day of National Immunization Day (NID) of 2024, 82.49 lakh children were given polio doses in 33 districts. At the same time, under all National Immunization Day, the Government of Gujarat has made access to 42.97 lakh children in 24 districts.
