Harshal Singh Rathore, Naiduniya Indore. The ponds that have included the name of the city in the list of Wetland City, now preparations are being made to install solar panels there. For this, a feasibility survey has also been conducted from Solar Energy Corporation of India.
The city’s environment is not in favor of this scheme of the corporation. Environmentalists say that if a solar panel is installed in the pond, it will have to tamper with the natural site and the birds will feel insecure due to human movement.
Yashwant Sagar’s name first joined the list of Ramsar Site
Here the cranes carry forward their life cycle. In such a situation, it will have more negative effects on them. The name of Yashwant Sagar, the old and huge pond of the city, first joined the list of Ramsar site.
Later, due to all the ponds of the city including Sirpur pond, Yashwant Sagar, the city got the status of Wetland City. But on this Yashwant Sagar, the smart city company is now preparing to set up a 20 MW floating solar power plant.
100 crores can be spent in setting up plant
Smart City Company has also conducted a feasibility survey in this regard through Solar Energy Corporation of India. About Rs 100 crore is being estimated to be spent on setting up floating solar power plant in the pond.
Let these places be naturally developed
According to Padma Shri ornate environmentalist bear Mondhe, the ponds whose names are included in the list of Ramsar site should be allowed to be developed in a natural manner. If it is being talked about installing solar panels here, then it will be a wrong decision.
This will negatively affect the stork and other migrant and local birds found here. The movement of employees for the maintenance of the solar panel will increase, which will make the birds feel insecure and migrate. In such a situation, setting up solar plants on the ponds is a wrong decision.
Five thousand birds
According to bird expert Ajay Gadikar, around 150 cranes are currently found in Yashwant Sagar. More than 70 species of migrant and local birds are also found here. The number of all the birds found here is about five thousand.
This place is the main hebitat of the stork. Apart from this, other birds also increase their life cycle here. In such a situation, there will be a negative impact on the birds etc. Need to preserve these places.
Solar plant can be set up
A feasibility survey has been conducted in relation to floating solar power plant on Yashwant Sagar. A 20 MW solar plant can be set up here. We will keep the survey report in the upcoming board meeting. Only then will a decision be taken in this regard. – Divyank Singh, CEO Smart City Company, Indore
