‘Next step evaluated’ in Tehwwur Rana case: US State Department

Preparations are going on for the extradition of India, accused of 26/11 terrorist attack at Taj Hotel in Mumbai, meanwhile the US State Department has said that it is currently considering taking the next step in relation to Rana’s India extradition. It is being evaluated how and now Tehwavur Rana will be sent to India. Pakistani -origin businessman Tawwur Hussain Rana, who was convicted for his role in 26/11 attacks on Mumbai, in which 164 people died, can now be extradited to India.

A spokesman for the State Department told ANI that the US has long supported India’s efforts to bring criminals of the 26/11 Mumbai attack under justice. The statement said, “Recently in view of the Supreme Court’s decision and in line with the US law, the state department is currently evaluating the next step in the matter.” The statement said, “We have long supported India’s efforts to ensure justice for criminals of Mumbai terror attacks.”

On January 21, the US Supreme Court dismissed the writ of the writ filed by Rana to stop his extradition in India. The writ was filed in November 2024 against the earlier order of the lower court, which ruled in favor of his extradition in India. Cartiari Rit is a legal document, which allows the High Court to review the case of the lower court.

The victim’s family is happy with the news of Tehwavur Rana’s extradition. Kirti Ajmera, a victim of the bomb blast attack, released a video on Sunday and raised the demand from the government to compensate the victims of the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. Kirti Ajmera, the victim of the Mumbai bomb blast, said, ‘The government has achieved success in bringing Tahwwur Rana, accused of 26/10 terrorist attack. A fight was being fought for a long time to bring this accused to the country, in which it has now won. The accused will come to the country and there will be many cases against him. There will be many revelations, how the terrorists reached Mumbai for the attack, all these things will be known. Pakistan has been refusing for involvement in the Mumbai attack.

He further said, “I say to the government that action will continue to be taken on the 26/11 terrorist attackers. The accused associated with the case will be punished. But till date no government has helped the bomb blast victims of 1993. Even after 32-33 years, the victims have not got justice according to me and they are punished, but the victims do not benefit from it. The victims should get compensation, they should be given as soon as possible.

The way has been cleared to bring Tehwwur Rana, accused of the Mumbai 26/11 attack. The US Supreme Court has approved Rana’s extradition. The court has rejected the review petition against his conviction. India was demanding extradition of Canadian Citizens of Pakistani origin Tawwur Rana. Rana is wanted in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack case.
