Captain Rohit Sharma said after the announcement of the team, ‘We thought a lot. There was uncertainty about Bumrah’s play. Therefore, we chose a player who could bowl with the new ball and in the death overs. Arshdeep fits into both these roles. Shami has performed brilliantly with the new ball.
He further said, ‘When Siraj does not bowl with the new ball, his effectiveness reduces. We chose three main fast bowlers because we had to include all-rounders in our team. It is unfortunate that Siraj had to stay out, but we had to strike the right balance for the team.
Apart from this, while answering Bumrah’s question, he said that we are waiting for his fitness report, which will come out in the first week of February. Only after that we will be able to take some decisions on them.
