The severity of cold has increased in most parts of North India on Wednesday. Cold increased the problems of the people. Night temperatures in the Kashmir Valley dropped below zero degrees at most places, while temperatures in parts of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh reached near freezing point. Due to dense fog, train and air services have been affected, due to which passengers are troubled.
The cold has hit the daily wage laborers the most. Due to extreme cold they are finding it difficult to come to work and their daily earnings are also being affected. Cold wave has also increased the problems of children and the elderly. They are falling victim to cold, cough and other physical problems.

Temperature expected to drop to 5 degrees Celsius
After several days of cold winds in the capital Delhi, there was sunshine on Wednesday afternoon and the maximum temperature was recorded at 21.5 degrees Celsius, which is 2.5 degrees more than the normal temperature of this season. The sky remained clear during the day, although in the morning there was dense fog and visibility became zero. The temperature in the capital is expected to fall by 5 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Cold wave in Uttar Pradesh also
Cold wave continues to wreak havoc in Uttar Pradesh. Orange alert has been issued in many areas of the state regarding cold weather and fog. Some areas were seen wrapped in a blanket of very dense fog. The Meteorological Department has warned about western disturbance. Between January 10 and 12, a new western disturbance will bring a change in the weather patterns.
Cold wave due to westerly wind in Bihar
Due to cold westerly winds in Bihar, cold wave conditions persisted throughout the day on Wednesday. Life has been affected due to cold. The Meteorological Department has said in its forecast that there is no possibility of any significant change in the weather for the next three days. According to the Meteorological Department, during the last 24 hours, light rain was recorded at one or two places in the northern part of the state. Dense fog is likely to prevail in most of the districts of north-central, north-east and south-east parts of the state in the morning. Whereas, light and moderate fog is likely to prevail in most of the districts in the remaining parts of the state in the morning.
In Madhya Pradesh, icy winds have increased the chill and a drop in temperature has also been recorded. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the effect of cold may increase further in the coming days and there are chances of change after that. Betul, Bhopal, Datia, Dhar, Guna, Gwalior, Narmada Puram, Indore, Raisen, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Ujjain, Chhindwara, Damoh, Jabalpur, Khajuraho, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Naugaon, Rewa, Sagar, Seoni, Tikamgarh, Umaria and Malajkhand. It has been recorded below 10 degrees Celsius.
How will the weather be in Himachal?
Shimla Meteorological Center of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday issued a ‘yellow’ alert of cold wave, frost and dense fog at different places in five of the 12 districts of the state, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra and Mandi. The department also issued a yellow alert for these five districts for Thursday, while dense fog has been predicted on Friday. A western disturbance is expected to form in north-west India from January 11 and the Meteorological Department has predicted rain and snowfall at some places on Saturday and Sunday.
Cold has increased in Kashmir Valley and the night temperature has gone below zero. The Meteorological Department said that due to clear sky the night temperature in the valley has gone below the freezing point.

Fatehpur in Rajasthan and Nagaur in the west have been the coldest districts of the desert state during the last 24 hours. The minimum temperature in Fatehpur was recorded at 1.1 degrees Celsius, while in Nagaur it was 1.7 degrees Celsius. The weather is likely to remain dry across the state on January 9, which will provide relief from cold wave in the north-eastern districts. However, there is a possibility of cloudy sky, thunderstorm and light rain in some parts of Bikaner, Bharatpur, Jaipur and Ajmer divisions on January 10-11.
The Indian Meteorological Department said in the bulletin issued on Wednesday that during the next 24 hours, the minimum temperature in North-West India is likely to drop by about 2 degrees Celsius and the temperature will gradually increase. It said that there is a possibility of cold wave at different places in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab on Thursday and Friday, Rajasthan on Friday, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Friday and Saturday.
There was dense fog at many places in Punjab and Haryana, visibility became zero in Amritsar. Visibility fell to 80 meters in Chandigarh, the common capital of both the states. There was fog in Karnal and Ambala of Haryana also. According to the Meteorological Department, Sangrur was the coldest place in Punjab, where the minimum temperature was recorded at three degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal.
