It will be necessary to adopt Indian standard time.
New Delhi: Now the government is going to take a big step to standardize punctuality in India. Under this, Indian Standard Time (IST) will now be made mandatory on all official and commercial platforms. Comprehensive rules have been drafted for its mandatory use. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has sought feedback from the public till 14th February.
IST will be mandatory
The Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2024 aim to establish a legal framework to standardize timekeeping practices. This framework mandates IST as the sole time reference for legal, administrative, commercial and official documents. According to the draft rule, “IST will be the mandatory time reference in all sectors, including commerce, transportation, public administration, legal contracts and financial operations.” Its main provisions include a ban on time references other than IST for official and commercial purposes. Is included.
Why is it important?
“Accurate timing with nanosecond accuracy is essential for strategic and non-strategic sectors,” said a senior government official. Accurate timing is important in telecom, banking, defense and technologies like 5G and AI. A little manipulation in time can cause big losses. Because of this, the central government is implementing the same time system throughout the country. Exceptions will be allowed for special areas such as astronomy, navigation and scientific research, for which government approval will first have to be obtained. The Department of Consumer Affairs is developing a robust time generation and dissemination mechanism in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Stakeholders have been asked to give suggestions on the draft rules by February 14.
penalty for violation
According to the draft prepared in this regard, only IST will be used for time reference. Violation of the proposed rules will attract a fine. The draft also has a provision for a time-synchronization system to ensure cyber security and reliability. Time synchronization refers to the process of ensuring that two systems or devices share a common time reference. It is important in various fields like engineering, secure communications, physical systems. The Department of Consumer Affairs is developing a robust time dilation system in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory and ISRO.
time zone of india
There is only one time zone throughout India. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat, the same time zone is implemented in India, which is called Indian Standard Time (IST). However, from time to time, demands for different time zones have also been made by many states. Especially in the North-Eastern states, they believe that due to one time zone, sunrise and sunset occurs earlier in their country. In such a situation, time zone should be determined according to their local conditions. Let us tell you that India’s time zone is five and a half hours ahead of Greenwich Standard Time (GMT).
