Now the Eighth Pay Commission is coming: Know why government employees are having fun!

The Central Government’s decision to constitute the Eighth Pay Commission has brought good news for about one crore government employees. A commission will be formed. Recommendations will come. If the Commission’s view on allowances remains as kind as before, then consider the government employees as having a good time. In fact, in a government job, perks are considered more important than salary. The question is, what good news is hidden in this for private sector employees also? Are the private employees already enjoying the salaries of the government employees? We will explain this below. But it is certain that the salary of central employees will definitely increase due to the Eighth Pay Commission, but its effect will be visible on the market. The question will also be that after the recommendations of the Pay Commission, how expensive will it become for the private sector to attract talent. Obviously the recommendations will be reflected in the salaries of employees in other sectors also. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav also said this while giving information about this decision of the government. He said that once the recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission are implemented, its impact will be visible on all the organizations of the country. All organizations have been following this.

ABCD of Pay Commission

  • There have been 7 pay commissions in the country since 1947.
  • The recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission were implemented in 2016.
  • Now the next Pay Commission recommendations are to be implemented in 2026
  • It is expected that with the formation of the 8th Commission in 2025, the report will come on time.
  • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that recommendations will come before 2026.
  • There will be discussions with state governments, PSUs and all other stakeholders.
  • The Chairman of the Commission and his two members will be announced soon.

Government Vs Private: Whose Fun?

Before the implementation of the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission, IIM Ahmedabad had compared the salaries of government employees and private sector employees. In this he had found that the salary of the lower ranking government employees is higher than that of the private sector. For example, if we talk about the driver, the difference was up to double. According to this study conducted in 2015, the average salary of a government driver at that time was around Rs 18 thousand, which was almost double the market rate at that time. But if we talk about the salary of government officials, then corporate managers win in this matter. In this study before the recommendation of the Seventh Pay Commission, the salary of a government officer starts from Rs 58100. The salary of Joint Secretary was 1.82 lakh, that of Secretary was 2.25 lakh and that of Cabinet Secretary was 2.5 lakh. But the big thing in this is that if you add allowances and bungalows then it will increase many times. For example, the rent of the Cabinet Secretary’s bungalow in Lutyens Zone is obviously more than his salary. In such a situation, if allowances and salary are added, then government employees are more happy.

perks of government employees

  • Book Allowance: Indian Foreign Service officers get this allowance once a year. In this, Rs 15,000 is available for purchasing books and study material.
  • Briefcase Allowance: Central Secretary rank officers get this unique gift of allowance. They can get reimbursement up to Rs 10,000 for purchasing briefcase, purse, government bag.
  • Secret Allowance: Cabinet Secretariat officers get this allowance in their salary every month for handling secret documents and sensitive duties.
