New Delhi3 hours ago
Now there will be no need to clear UGC NET exam to become an Assistant Professor in Higher Education Institutes. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has released draft UGC guidelines for faculty recruitment and promotion in Higher Education Institutes i.e. HEIs. According to this, it will not be necessary to be NET qualified in the subject for Assistant Professor recruitment.
Draft guidelines have been released on the official website of UGC. These guidelines will be implemented after taking feedback and suggestions from industry experts and stakeholders. UGC may implement guidelines after February 5.
According to the currently applicable UGC Guidelines 2018, for Assistant Professor recruitment, it was necessary for the candidate to be NET qualified in the same subject in which he has done Post Graduate (PG). In the new guidelines, candidates have the freedom to do NET from subjects other than PG. Also, without NET, candidates who have done Ph.D directly will also be able to apply for Assistant Professor recruitment.
The requirement of teaching experience for the post of VC is abolished. According to the draft guidelines, now it will not be necessary for a candidate to have 10 years of teaching experience to become Vice Chancellor in a higher education institute.
Experts in their field, who have 10 years of experience of working at senior level and who have a good track record, can become Vice Chancellor (VC). The University Chancellor will form a committee for the appointment of VC, which will take the final decision.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan (centre) released the draft guidelines with UGC Chairman M Jagadish Kumar (left) on January 6. Additional Secretary of Ministry of Education Sunil Kumar (right) was also present on the occasion.
