How did the accident happen?
The express train going to Prayagraj was standing on platform number 14, when a large number of people were present on the platform. During this time, the freedom fighter Express and Bhubaneswar Rajdhani trains were also late and their passengers were also present at platform numbers 12, 13 and 14. Railways sold 1500 general tickets every hour, causing the crowd to become uncontrollable. There was a stampede near the escalator near platform number-14 and platform number 16. Due to the huge crowd, some passengers pushed each other.

The Chief Medical Officer of LNJP Hospital in Delhi confirmed the deaths. Officials said that 10 women, three children and two men died in the incident. Passengers have accused the railway of negligence.

In the video, there is a huge crowd when the train reached the platform. Officials said that there was a competition to board the train and when the passengers realized that they would not be able to go inside, they got nervous. Amarinder Kumar, a passenger, said, “The number of devotees to go to Mahakumbh is very high. They got crowded at the New Delhi railway station. The administration made a lot of effort to handle the crowd, after which the crowd was removed.”

Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar reached New Delhi railway station to assess the situation with the Director General of RPF and the officials concerned. Railways have ordered a high level inquiry into the incident.
