America’s 39th President Jimmy Carter, born in Daulatpur Nasirabad village of Gurugram and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, passed away. He was 100 years old. After his demise, people living in Carterpuri, Gurugram remembered him and refreshed their sweet and sour memories.
When Cart came to Gurugram in 1978, the name of Daulatpur Nasirabad was changed to Carterpuri in his name. There is an atmosphere of mourning in Carterpuri village due to his death.
According to the villagers, the day Jimmy Carter came to Gurugram was no less than a festival for the residents of Carterpuri. Before their arrival the unpaved roads were paved. The village was decorated like a bride and the villagers welcomed her in a traditional manner.
According to the villagers, the mother of former US President Jimmy Carter was a nurse in a hospital in Mumbai. During the Second World War, she came to village Daulatpur Nasirabad in Gurgaon to serve the soldiers. She lived here in the jailer’s mansion and it was at this place that Jimmy Carter was born.
Jimmy Carter was America’s longest living president. Following his mother’s insistence, he came to Gurgaon in 1978 to see his birthplace, after which Prime Minister Morarji Desai changed the name of Daulatpur Nasirabad to Carterpuri. Today the villagers’ eyes became moist while sharing the memories of Jimmy Carter.

Former US President Carter, who lived the longest, served on this post from 1977 to 1981. Carter, a peanut farmer, won the presidential election after the ‘Watergate’ scandal and the Vietnam War.
Carter is survived by his children – Jack, Chip, Jeff and Amy, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His wife Roslyn and one of his grandchildren have passed away.
Carter had said on January 2, 1978 that India’s difficulties, which we often experience ourselves and which developing countries in particular have to face, remind us of our responsibilities for the future. Not the authoritarian kind.
Carter’s career
The son of a farmer and a nurse, Carter’s career in public service began as a cadet at the United States Naval Academy in 1943 and he then served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. He was later selected to join the elite nuclear submarine programme. Carter was elected a state senator in 1962 and the 76th Governor of Georgia in 1970. Carter began his presidential campaign in 1974, when the United States was still recovering from the Watergate scandal involving President Richard Nixon’s administration. Due to this scandal, Nixon had to resign in 1974. He was defeated by Republican Ronald Reagan in the 1980 presidential election.
