Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone on a two -day visit to Mauritius. On reaching Mauritius, PM Modi was strongly welcomed. The main objective of this journey is to further strengthen relations between India and Mauritius and promote cooperation between the two countries. This visit of PM Modi is taking place at the invitation of Mauritius Prime Minister Naveen Chandra Ramgulam. He will also attend Mauritius’ National Day celebrations during this visit. Mauritius celebrates its National Day on 12 March.
The purpose of the Prime Minister’s visit
Prime Minister Modi said in a statement before leaving Mauritius, “The journey will add a new and bright chapter to the relationship between India and Mauritius.” He also stated that his visit is part of the “Sagar Vision”, which aims to promote security, development and cooperation in the Indian Ocean region. The meaning of ‘Sagar’ is “Security and Growth for all in the region” (security and development for all in the region). PM Modi said, “The center of our efforts will always be the progress and prosperity of our people as well as regional security and development.”
India-Marysus relations are important
The Prime Minister described Mauritius as a close sea neighbor in the Indian Ocean, a prominent partner and entrance to the African continent. He said, “We are deeply connected to each other with history, geography and culture. The deep mutual belief between the two countries, the values ​​of democracy and the pride on diversity are our strength.” PM Modi also said that close and historical relations between India and Mauritius are a source of common glory.
Countless partnership between the two countries
Prime Minister Modi said that in the last 10 years, significant progress has been made in relations between the two countries through many public oriented initiatives. He said that India is one of the largest trading partners in Mauritius. Trade and economic cooperation between the two countries is strengthening. Mauritius has emerged as the second largest source after Singapore in terms of FDI (FDI) in India for 2023-24.
Participation of Indian military forces
During the visit of Prime Minister Modi, a contingent of the Indian Armed Forces, a warship of the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force Akash Ganga ‘Skyding Team’ will also participate in the National Day celebrations of Mauritius.
