Mumbai:
Regarding the knife stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan, the Mumbai Police said that the face recognition technique has confirmed that Mohammad Shariful Islam, accused of stabbing the actor, is the same person who was seen in CCTV footage on the crime scene. Shariful Islam allegedly entered Khan’s house on the 12th floor on the morning of 16 January with the intention of looting. When the 54 -year -old actor faced him, the accused allegedly stabbed him six times before his escape.
Saif Ali Khan was taken to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where doctors underwent his emergency surgery. A knife wound was close to his spine. After staying in the hospital for five days, he was discharged and advised to rest in bed.
Bangladeshi citizen Islam was arrested on 19 January in the neighboring city of Thane.
The father’s father’s big claim
Islam’s father Mohammad Ruhul Amin has confirmed his son’s political association with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He also claimed that he ran away from the country to avoid political oppression. In a telephone conversation with NDTV, Amin stressed that the person arrested in Mumbai was not his son, although the police had recovered the government documents of Bangladesh, who confirmed the nationality of Islam.
Speaking to NDTV, Amin said that his son had fled from Bangladesh due to “false cases” filed against him during the long rule of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government. He claimed that Islam feels insecure and has sought shelter in India with the intention of finding work.
Amin told NDTV, “The Hasina government was in power for 16 years. There were false cases against him, even mobile theft. The political atmosphere was bad and my son felt that he could not live in the country.”
However, when he was asked whether Islam left Bangladesh due to these cases, Amin denied it. He also accused the officials of torturing the officials due to family participation in BNP.
Amin has denied his son’s involvement in the crime. At the same time, the credibility of CCTV footage has been questioned, which helped the police to track it.
He also claimed, “CCTV photos are not of my son.” He also argued that the appearance of Islam does not match the attacker. He said, “His face is heavy and hair is short. The person seen in the footage has long hair who is reaching his eyes. He is not my son.”
What has happened so far?
A Mumbai court on Thursday turned down the Mumbai Police’s request to increase Islam’s custody. The Bandra Magistrate Court said in this case that no new base was submitted to justify further police custody. Also, the court sent Islam to judicial custody.
However, citing the provisions of the Indian Code of India Code, the court said that if new developments come to light, the police can request custody again. Under the amended criminal laws of India, the police can demand detention of either continuously or partially 15 days in a period of 40 or 60 days depending on the severity of the crime.
Despite the court refusing to extend the duration of police custody, the Mumbai Police says they have enough and strong evidence against Islam. The police have tested facial recognition on CCTV footage, which confirmed that Islam was the person who was seen entering and exiting Saif Ali Khan’s building.
New twist about fingerprint analysis
There was an unexpected turn in this case last week when finger print of Islam and fingerprint found at Saif Ali Khan’s house were not matched in fingerprint analysis. The Mumbai Police sent 19 sets of fingers from the crime site to the CID. According to sources, the CID’s fingerprint bureau informed about the matching of these fingerprints with Islam.
Despite this, the police conducted other forensic investigations. Clothes worn by the accused, knives used in attack, swab (towel), and a bag were sent for forensic chemical analysis.
It is believed that Islam came illegally from Bangladesh to India and after crossing the border, he allegedly changed his name from Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad to Biological Das and spent time in Kolkata before going to Mumbai.
Now the police is searching for those who helped him enter India and live. According to the statement given by Islam to the police, it was promised to give fake documents of Indian citizenship in lieu of money. His purpose for alleged theft was to raise money for these documents.
Trouble stood with wrong identity
In this case, a separate controversy has erupted over the wrong way of wrongly detaining Akash Kanaujia, a 31 -year -old man. After a secret information, Kanaujia was arrested by a train in Chhattisgarh. Akash Kanaujia has claimed that this incident ruined his life.
In an interview with NDTV, Kanaujia said that he lost his driver’s job and the marriage proposal was withdrawn after false allegations. He said, “Why my picture was made viral? I want justice.”
His father Kailash Kanaujia also criticized the police and said, “This mistake has ruined my son’s life. Now due to mental trauma, Akash is not able to pay attention to work. He has become misguided and lost motivation Is.”
The Mumbai Police defended its action and said that taking a suspect into custody for questioning is a standard process.
