Indian Grandmaster R Praganand won the Tata Steel Masters 2025 tournament by defeating World Chase Champion D Gukesh in Tiebreak. Pragananand Vishwanathan has become the second Indian to win the title after Anand. Vishwanathan has won the title five (1989, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2006). In this, he has been a joint winner 3 times.
On Sunday, the winner was decided by the tiebreak match played in Vijk Aan Ji, Netherlands. Gukesh and Praganand suffered defeat in their last round. Gukesh lost to Arjun Arigasi in his last phase. At the same time, Pagnanand was defeated by German Grandmaster Vincent Kimer.
Prananand and Gukesh had 8.5–8.5 points after the last 13th round of the 14 players’ round-robin event. After this, the winner had to be decided by the tiebreak match. In this, Pagnanand returned after trailing and defeated Gukesh and won the title.
International master was formed at the age of 10 Pragananand hails from Tamil Nadu. He was born on 10 August 2005 in Chennai. His father Rameshbabu works as a branch manager at Tamil Nadu State Corporation Bank, while his mother is Nagalakshmi House Wife. Pragnananda became the youngest international master of chess in 2016 at the age of 10.

Who is D Gukesh?The full name of Gukesh D is Domamaraju Gukesh. He hails from Chennai. Gukesh was born on 7 May 2006 in Chennai. He started playing chess at the age of 7. He was initially given coaching by Bhaskar Nagaiya.
Nagaiya has been an international chase player and Chase has a home tutor in Chennai. After this, Vishwanathan Anand gave Gukesh coaching along with giving information about the game. Gukesh’s father is a doctor and mother is a microbiologist by profession.
